Lore
Portals Spinners are members of the Cult of the Rift, a faction within the Chaos Legion that harnesses rift magic to cast deadly spells.
Portal Spinners siphon life magic from their surroundings to open mini-rifts in the fabric of reality. Some thought to use these portals to travel between realms. However, after attempting to do so, many a Portal Spinner was consumed by whatever foul beasts dwelled on the other side of the portal. Others emerged... rearranged... and either dead or wishing they were dead.
Now, Portal Spinners simply use their portals to launch chaotic and random attacks against their enemies. They might open one portal beneath a fallen sword, boulder, or other weapon of convenience and a second portal above their enemies, sending the weapon through the rift and crashing down on its unsuspecting victim.
If facing enemies capable of flight, Portal Spinners have been known to use their portals to drop nets upon their foes, grounding them.
The White Splinter is not my favorite from all the six classes, because my experience shows that it is quite easy to counter and the high leveled good cards are very expensive, so it is difficult for me to play with it properly.
Anyhow I had to give it a try for this weeks challenge (This is one of the reason I love these kind of challenges, because they will push me out of my comfort zone and I might be able to discover something new! 😊) playing with the Portal Spinner, which I never really used before. 😁
Let's see his stats and abilities on all levels.
The Portal Spinner's Ranged 🏹 attack damage is 2 on Level 1, which is amazing for 5 mana and receives +1 Armor 🛡 as well to protect him from 1 incoming Melee and Ranged Attack completely. He receives the infamous Scattershot ability, which makes the Portal Spinner attacks to hit a random enemy target. 🤓
This ability makes very difficult to predict the outcome of the battle and this is one of the most important reason I didn't use him at all. My strategy (and I believe most of us use this strategy as well) to focus most of the damage on a single monster and do not spread the damage on multiple monsters. Using the Portal Spinner makes focusing my opponent creatures more difficult, but in some circumstances like in the Back to Basics rulesets, where all the Monsters lose all abilities this monster could come in handy. 😎
| Ruleset | Description |
|---|---|
| Unprotected | Monsters do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs. |
My lineup and the decision behind it!
General Sloan
General Sloan is one of the cheapest on the market if you are planning to rent or buy him. His ability is to provide +1 Ranged 🏹 Attack damage to all of his fellow ranged monsters. This ability is quite strong on its own, but if you want to play competitive with him you need to protect your lineup somehow. Thankfully there are many ways where you can get armor 🛡 from life monsters, which is pretty good, but like I mentioned in my opening they are pretty expensive.
General Sloan worked out perfectly with the Portal Spinner as it is a Ranged attacker, so I just had to protect my rangers in order to defeat my opponent. 😊
Main Tank
Chain Golem
The Chain Golem is a perfect main tank thanks to his Shield ability, which reduces the damage from Melee and Ranged attacks by half. Unfortunately the ruleset killed all the armor from him and made him quite vulnerable. I was hoping that my enemy will bring only Melee and Ranged attack, but he brought 2 Magic attack creatures and killed him quicker than I thought! 😲
Damage Dealer and Off-Tank
Cornealus
The Cornealus is an amazing monster with its High Health ❤️ and the ability to Heal himself in every round. Usually I play him in the last position of my lineup to protect my backline from Sneak attackers, but in this case I used him as an off-tank, because as long as he can Heal himself with the help of Venari Crystalsmith the more damage we can deal to my opponent. 😇
Healer
Venari Crystalsmith
The Venari Crystalsmith is a card that I would choose all the time if I have to pick the Life summoner. General Sloan boosts her ranged damage to 2 on Level 1, but her most important ability is the Tank Heal, which is restoring a portion of the Monster Health ❤️ in the first position.
I even bought a gold version of her, because she is so amazing card that it is an almost auto include in any setup of mine. 😇
Damage Dealer
Pelacor Arbalest
The Pelacor Arbalest is a quite good card if you are playing with General Sloan. On its own he has only 2 damage, but Sloan increasing that with 1. The Double Strike ability enables him to attack twice in each and every round dealing 6 damage, which is a lot to ignore. 😁
Damage Dealer
Portal Spinner
The Portal Spinner is like playing a russian rulette! 🤣 He can be amazing if his shot is lucky, but if he shoots everywhere than it is worth nothing. There are some rulesets like the Blast or Back to Basics where he might be good, but generally his performance is very unpredictable therefore not worth playing, at least for me! 😊
AOE Damage Dealer
Prismologist
The Prismologist is quite alright as a AOE damage dealer. She has an amazing damage, but her most important ability is Blast from Level 1, which deals additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. 😊 The 8 mana cost is a lot, but if she can make enough attack she will just destroy the enemy lineup in no time.
The battle was a tough one, because my winning chance was only 70% and if I didn't play with the Portal Spinner I think I wouldn't win. My Chain Golem died pretty quickly, because of the 2 magic 🔮 creature in the enemy team. Luckily the Portal Spinner used her Scattershot to eliminate my opponent's Pelacor Arbalest, which was a huge win for me. The Arbalest would deal huge damage to me, but thanks to the Spinner we eliminated theirs.
The Cornealus took a lot of damage and with the heal abilities he survived the whole battle as an off-tank. 😊
The turning point was clearly the lucky shot from the Portal Spinner and I was so happy to see that. 😇
