There are some combinations which just seem to go together; tomato and cheese, bread and butter, and the other obvious one, the BYZANTIUM KITTY and DJINN CWALA. In this blog, I want to explore this powerful combination, as it is a match made, well and truly, in a DRAGON'S LAIR heaven!
To do this, let's start with Byzantium Kitty:
On it's surface, this card is beyond awesome. I remember using this one when I first signed up to Splinterlands, and it's appeal has stayed with me. It gives every one of your cards +2 Boots. This means, in a battle of speed, your cards are going to have a huge advantage - and will often mean you opponent will miss you. It's True Hit ability will also mean that while your opponent might miss you, your arrow hits cannot miss your opponent. HUGE! And then finally, it has the HEAL ability, and will heal your tank each round. This will often be the difference between surviving and thriving - particularly if your team has other HEALERS on it!
The only real draw-back to this card, if any - is it's mana cost. At 7 mana, that's going to be 3 or 4 higher than any of your opponents cards are likely to be - you just need to be mindful of the cost/benefits ratio. The heal ability is kind of like playing a 3 mana healer!
This guy is amazing! I'll say it again, amazing!
My card is Level 1 - and that means he is really made the bronze league, as the Level 1 card will not let you play Level 2 summoners. I play in the Silver League, so this could be a disadvantage for me.
That said, let's look at his total summoning stats:
In the end, I was incredibly impressed. This is one hot card, even at Level 1 - it gives you 1000 CARD power, but it does unlock a lot of options - giving you the chance to play an epic card at Level 2.
To celebrate the card, I decided to see if I could actually afford to buy one, since I love using it so much. Today, I had it rented for 6.75 DEC - An absolute bargain if you ask me!
What I learned was: I need to keep renting. At $480 USD for one card, this one is well out of my price range - especially since I'd need 3 to use him at Level 2! I think this is likely due to the card's low mintage of only 1433. For fun, I also checked out whether a GOLD card could be reasonably purchased, and it turns out, that would cost $20,000 to buy one of the 79 minted!
The next consideration is how to make this BYZANTINE KITTY pairs with my favourite Dragon, Djinn Chawala:
Now, the Djinn Chwala is absolute amazing when paired with Byzantine Kitty - for a number of reasons:
- He has a solid attack at +3 Melee
- He has thorns, which means he will damage opponents at +2 thorns per hit he takes.
- He has 2 boots, but with Kitty this becomes +4 boots - making him a very, very quick TANK.
- His +10 Health will let him survive an awful lot, while his
- +6 armour will be hard to knock down quickly.
In short - this guy is BEAST. With Kitty also HEALING him each round, his longevity is going to be huge. Being a reward card, he's also an incredibly affordable option for building into a strong deck:
So let's get to the BYZANTIUM KITTY + DJINN CHWALA Battle:
This ruleset is very interesting, and not one you see often. The CLOSE RANGE skill means that if I play a card with arrows, that it can still attack in the first position. But, this is not super important for me, as the battle only has a 15 mana cap. A quick calculation of a 7 Mana Kitty as a Summoner, and an 8 Mana Djinn Chwala makes this nearly the perfect battle to pair them together, to see how they roll in partnership.
My Backrow:
Looking at my backrow, you'll note that the mana limitations this week have meant my team doesn't have a lot of depth.
In fact, after my Summoner and Tank, I had 0 mana left to allocate. To that end, I just used a 0 Mana Fungus Fiend. His role was to play back-stop. If my opponent played a SNEAK card, I was hopeful to delay him hitting me Djinn for a round or two. If the Fungus did make the TANK position, he would only be effective vs a 1 melee hitting opponent - if that were the case he would heal each round and be OK. - It was an unlikely scenario, but could happen - if both my tank and my opponent's killed each other on the same hit - perhaps he kills me, then dies of thorns. It does happen!
This is how the battle gets underway:
I'll be honest - when this battle opened I was incredibly nervous. I thought 100% the battle was going to be lost with him holding the SCAVO HIRELING to fix his armour each round. I did wonder whether my HEAL ability would let me get to the fatigue stage, and potentially win then. But, there wasn't a lot of confidence.
Ok, let's have a look at how the battle went, have a look at this video. Trust me, it's LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG and kind of funny!
As you can see, this battle was on from the start. The funny thing was, I was making progress. As I would take my opponent's ARMOUR off him, and then he would hit me, causing the thorns to take his health. It was going to be a very long battle, but I could see some potential in it:
At the end of round 5, you can see, the initial hits have taken a lot of armour from both sides, and I've lost some health, but it is my opponent who is suffering most significantly. I thought from this position it'd be an easy enough win:
Then the SCAVO HIRELING takes to the tank position, and I thought it was an easy win for me from there. NOPE - You see, I'd hit him, and his armour would drop. Then, he'd restore his armour - and we just ding-donged in this position for the next 14 rounds. In that time my health obviously restored itself - but I needed FATIGUE to kick in to finally finish this battle off.
So what's the verdict?
- I really do love draogns, they are so versitile - they can be great in defense in these low mana battles, and in higher mana battles, great in attack.
- I would like to buy a Byzantium Kitty, but I don't have the funds to be able to do so. If I win the lottery, she'll be on my purchase list.
-Kitty and Djinn Chwala - a match made in Heaven, I'd recommend you try them.
Thanks for joining me, for another Splinter Chat! This blog was put together as part of Splinterlands' weekly 'Share-Your-Battle' challenge. Have you put yours together yet?
