The game will be completely free to play, with no content hidden behind a paywall.
Personally, I really dislike the fact that almost every game that allows players to earn some kind of crypto requires an initial investment in packs, passes, or whatever else it may be called.
Of course, I will eventually need to introduce some form of monetization. The game infrastructure costs money, and if the project grows enough, maybe one day I would be able to leave my regular job and dedicate 100% of my time to my own project. That is something I do not see as realistically possible with the Splinterlands market.
My monetization will be based on a 30-day subscription that gives VIP status, although I may name it differently in the future. VIP status will give a small boost to resource production, but also some quality-of-life features, such as automatic renewal of potions and oils — I have the concept, but it is not implemented yet — and similar conveniences.
Players who do not want to spend real money will be able to unlock exactly the same status by watching ads. Each watched ad will add some amount of VIP time, with the possibility to stack it up to, let’s say, 48 hours.
I do not want to add packs, loot boxes, or paid items. If anything, I may add cosmetic things such as skins.
