Hi guys,
Today I'll walk you through the stages of creating an artwork of the game character 'Lord Arianthus.' This character appears in the game Splinterlands as a reward card.
To begin, I created this artwork in Adobe Illustrator. I began with drawing the head, which is the most intricate aspect of this artwork. I sketched the borders one by one, starting with the outlines and working my way up to the interior intricacies of the head. I attempted to make the expression as grump as possible.
Then I began by sketching the tank for the head. The skulls were difficult to design (not as difficult as the head, but still) but I used a method to save time: I just created the center and left side skeletons, then copied and pasted the left side one on the right side in a mirrored manner.
Now it was time to color, and I attempted to stay as true to the original colors as possible. I experimented a little and found that this combination is the best. After applying the colors, the illustration became more brighter and more meaningful.
On the tank, I put some flares to show some reflection.
It felt unfinished and empty no matter how many times I looked at it; it felt like it needed something more, so I decided to create a backdrop. I wanted to maintain the backdrop concept as close to the character as possible, so I chose to put some tanks on the side, although they weren't the same as the figure.
Then, when searching for stock images on Google, I came across this one that was ideal for my artwork. It reminded me of the biological experimental laboratory in animes.
Then I put my illustration on top of the backdrop, and I was ecstatic to see how well it merged in. The few hours of hard labor were well worth it!
I merely brightened parts of the backdrop to make it feel more genuine and to merge everything together flawlessly.
This is my 'Lord Arianthus' illustration; I hope you like it and would appreciate your support.
