Hi guys,
I'm back with another piece of artwork for the Splinterlands game character 'Black Dragon'. In the game, this character is a prize card.
Drawing inspiration from the game figure, I rebuilt the game character with my own unique style and taste. I wanted my recreation to be a little bulkier and more powerful-looking, and I'm glad it came out that way. I hope you agree with my thoughts, and I hope you love how I reimagined the game character in my own unique style.
To begin, I used Adobe Illustrator to make this piece. I started by drawing the most detailed part of the artwork, the head or skull. I started with the outlines and worked my way up to the inside intricacy of the head, sketching the borders one by one. I tried to make the expression as outlandish as I could.
Then I started coloring the head; after coloring it, it seemed a little odd, so I added more hues to make it feel more realistic, and I was quite pleased with the result.
Then I started sketching the rear neck, added some scales, and colored the neck and scales in game character colors.
Then I began working on the body, outlining the body first before adding any more features. I began sketching the intricacies of the body after correctly outlining it, and I must admit that illustrating all of those elements was quite difficult.
After that, I began sketching the left wing and leg.
I started sketching the right wing and leg after finishing the left wing and leg. To save time and effort, I copied and pasted the left wing to the right in a mirrored manner, but I couldn't do the same for the right leg, so I had to hand sketch everything on it, which was inconvenient.
Throughout the illustration, I tried to keep the basic elements of the form, including the colors, as realistic as possible. After creating the image, I began scouring the web for the appropriate background, and when I eventually found it, I felt elated since my job was nearly complete.
