Hello Splinterfans!
This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Counterspell.
For all magic fans, seeing the counterspell ruleset can cause a big sadness as this could disrupt their plans to play Alric or Obsidian and romp to an easy victory.
There are a few ways that I like to play this ruleset but one of my favorites that I will show you today is by using magic with the awesome Immortalis summoner. That can throw off your opponent who maybe wasn't expecting a magic attack!
I really do like to try and catch my opponent unawares and give them the unexpected. Using Immortalis should cancel out the effect of the reflect ability but you need to be sure that you have enough attack power still to finish off your opponent.
My Team
This is a high mana battle and I am going to go for Immortalis and Grund up front with his awesome double-strike ability.
| Summoner/ Monster | Reason |
|---|---|
| Immortalis | Void ability |
| Grund | Double-strike ability |
| Mycelic Slipspawn | Taunt ability |
| Sandworm | Strong sneak attack |
| Queen Mycelia | Shield ability |
| Goblin Psychic | Silence ability |
| Kron the Undying | Strong magic attack |
My opponents
| Summoner/ Monster | |
|---|---|
| Daria Dragonscale | |
| Robo-Dragon Knight | |
| Arkemis the Bear | |
| Silvershield Assassin | |
| Feral Spirit | |
| Sandworm | |
| Silvershield Sheriff |
The rules for the battle are:
| Healed Out | All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners. |

ROUND 1 - Grund vs. Robo-Dragon Knight
My opponent has gone for Daria Dragonscale, a formidable opponent for sure and a very strong melee attack boosted by Daria too. I have gone for a mostly magic attack with a couple of key strong melee attack monsters. Up my sleeve is that Immortalis also gives the shatter ability, that will destroy Robo-Dragon's shield straight away..
For this he gets an extra attack on the mighty Arkemis who is also severly weakened by my magic attack.
ROUND 2
First Arkemis, then Silvershield Assassin and Feral Spirit fall thanks to Grund's trample ability. Things are already looking very shakey for my opponent. Grund then falls himself and Sandworm for my opponent. By round 3, he has only the Silvershield Sheriff still standing..
ROUND 3
In round 3, its all over and my opponent is vanquished. An unexpected magic attack combined with some strong melee attack with shatter ability was too much for my opponent.
Summary:
Trying to do the unexpected can often pay off in Splinterlands as most players play for the most common variable. My opponent didn't consider to debuff a magic attack and paid the price dearly.
Thanks for reading.
