I came across Splinterlands quite a while ago through Brave ads. I played the tutorial and thought it was okay but didn't buy in. Honestly there just did not seem to be much depth to the game. The only card game I ever really got into was Magic the Gathering. Not many have lived up to that standard. The closest was probably Hearthstone but even it was kind of... mindless to me.
Really may be regretting not starting back then. Maybe it is FOMO but I thought it might be fun to give Splinterlands another shot. I still feel like the game itself is lacking in depth. But it also occurs to me that may be by design and may be a good thing. Who has time for 2 hour games of MTG these days anyway?
I played my first game about an hour ago. Definitely still a complete newb. And of the 6 games I've played, 5 were ranked. But the last 4 I won because my opponent surrendered. I'm guessing this is because they didn't hit the battle button before the time ran out.
So really I've only 'played' 1 practice game and 1 ranked game that actually took place. Considering the entire game is based on setting up your team inside the time limit, I will still consider the other 4 legitimate victories as well though.
Again, I am a total newb still but so far, I think my strategy seems pretty good. I may have only got to see two games play out but I won them pretty easily. Like not losing a single card until the very end of the second game. I put up a strong tank and a strong rear ranged attacker and fill the middle with snipers and sneak attackers.
I did my first daily within the hour I played and pulled Ant Miners. Does not seem like a good pull really. Does not fit my strategy at least and is a common. But oh well.
I do plan to keep playing now. Precisely because it doesn't take 2 hours a game! So what prevented me from opting in early is what is keeping me interested now. The irony. 😁
After browsing the website and such, I also have to say that the surrounding ecosystem and community is very impressive. The game itself may be short and simple but there is a lot of supporting events, markets, etc... which make it really quite cool.
Hopefully I can continue winning even when my opponents aren't always surrendering! 😅
See you all around!
