Introduction
Rebellion sale has been out for almost two weeks now and someone did ask me whether it was worth it or not. Currently as of this post, there is only 213k packs left to purchase for pre-sale. In this post, I will share my thoughts on whether it's worth it to participate in the presale.
What I Did & My Thoughts
Personally for me, I didn't have a lot of funds to make huge purchases on this sale. As you can see from the screenshot below, I purchased 10 packs just as a total flier to support Splinterlands. For my situation, it wasn't really worth it since I still haven't completed my goal of getting gold foil chaos legion cards at gold league max.
There also hasn't been any information released on the cards of this set other than the promo cards. I think maybe if they released some stats and info on those cards we may see more purchases happen. As of now, there's a lot of uncertainty and could be just a lot of fomo and I don't want to fall into the fomo. I also think another thing that offset a lot of people from buying this set is that it would give a 0.5 multiplier on land. In terms of land workers, I think people have been choosing to go for these huge discounts on chaos legion cards and packs.
I have doubts that Rebellion will sell out. The only case this happens is if we really go into a bullrun and BTC goes to maybe 50-60k then maybe people will have the money to buy Rebellion packs. My best guess is that there will probably be 100k pre-sale packs left before the pre-sale period ends.
Worth It
There are cases where buying into rebellion may be worth it for some people. The first is the pre-sale leaderboard. As you can see from the image below, you can get exclusive titles for certain rankings and if you're in the top 6 you can design the legendary summoners for Rebellion.
If I had the money, I think it would be awesome to design a card for my favorite game in web3. As for the titles, you could probably sell them for over 100 dollars possibly and get back some of your money. If not you could keep it as well as I know some people like collecting these and having it display next to their name.
The other case that is worth it is buying in bulk. You could buy a ton of packs and get bonus packs for purchasing in bulk. Maybe if you want to participate in a group buy to get a discount it would be great. The only issue with this is you most likely won't get a title in the group buy.
Lastly, there most likely would be a huge advantage for people that own these cards as untamed is shifting out of modern. The game will definitely change a lot with cards like almo, yodin, kitty and llama being cycled out.
Not Worth It
Buying these packs and not buying in bulk or getting a leaderboard position is extremely not worth it. In most cases, it's better to just buy individual cards that are strong and "meta" from the marketplace. It's safer this way and less of a gamble. It's ok to buy a few like 1-10 just as a total flier if you want to support Splinterlands or get lucky on a promo card from the presale. Other than this, I just don't see a case for buying a small amount of Rebellion packs. If you're going to be focusing on land this is probably something to stay away from as you should be saving up on DEC or getting cards with better PP.
Conclusion
Whether this is worth it or not determines on what you value in the game. It also depends on your financial situation of course. I think there's many other Splinterland assets to look at like Chaos Legion for example while everyone is having their eyes set on the new shiny Rebellion set.
