🤘Good day fellow People!
I am back again, and this is my second time entering the Splinterlands Art Contest (Week 151). This time I decided to so something a bit more artistic, and less design orientated. This week I picked the Death Splinter Nightmare card as a subject/inspiration.
Original Splinterlands Nightmare Artwork:
Creating the art
First off, this digital painting was created in the fairly new Adobe Fresco software, on a Wacom Intuos Pro Paper Edition L. I have only recently gotten into digital drawing again, and it is by no means my strongest skill, but I am trying to learn as I go.
☝️Step1 - Reference and Rough Sketch
As always, I started off by gathering some references of The Google. In terms of the reference art, all rights reserved to the original artists for their great art, and I am always thankful that there are so many great artworks out there to reference.
I started out by drawing the basic horse face shape, and then added the skeleton bits, filling it out as I went along. Apart from it looking a little bit "doglike", I was fairly happy with my initial sketch.
✌️Step2 - Colour layers
I added some basic background colours, and then slowly started to expand my colour range to create some depth. I always try to use a wide range of dark and light tones, thus getting some pure white, and pitch blacks to create some nice contrast. I am very much still learning, and I fair amount of experimentation took place in regards to brushes, effects, layering and colours.
👌Step3 - Cleanup, resizing, and the final result!
Lastly, I did some basic line cleanup, although I decided to leave some of the initial rough sketch, as it really added to the texture of the image. I merged some layers, and did some resizing, and thus ended with my end result. And here it is, hope you like it!
👋The Bonus
Adobe Fresco has a great little feature where it gives you a time-lapse of the sketch. I exported it and have posted it on Youtube for those of you that are interested in seeing the messy process. Hope you enjoy it!
