We got some rather rough news or at least it seems like rough news from the #splinterlands team today. As another round of layoffs had to take place in order for the game and company to keep going. Mainly it seems that the core focus of these layoffs where on what I would call "extras" the nice to haves but not critically important to the game running.
Sure it's nice to have marketing but if it's not producing profits and paying for all the marketing being done (which is often the case anymore) then what's the point. The BEST marketing is your community. The players that create content, tell their friends and build it all that way. All of this money could have been returned into the game back to the players and the investors in the game which should always be the case in a web3 game over paying jobs for a company. That's at least my harsh business insight. I know it sucks but it is what it is. If your not producing results then you need to cut or you need to seriously start delivering.
In any case with all the changes and most likely some players stopping to play now because of the news I personally have actully been able to play the game again after months of not playing.
With a deck worth roughly $60,000 currently I found myself stuck in bronze and not able to earn ANY rewards at all for playing the game. That SUCKED and it sucked big time after being in Diamond and even champion in the game up until around 6 months ago when it seemed like nothing but bots where beating me. They pushed me down into bronze and would always outplay me because at bronze levels it doesn't matter if I have higher end cards they only can play at a small cap which pretty much everyone has.
This resulted in me playing about 30 minutes a day for two months with ZERO yes ZERO SPS rewards and ZERO chests to open. So what did I do? I rented everything out so at least I could do and earn something in the game to get ready for land.
Today I got to wrap up a guild battle game and it felt good. While I didn't do so hot in it lol we still managed to pull some SPS and enough merits for me to buy two Gladius cases.
While the open wasn't great by any means it felt good that FINALLY I was able to add 10 NFT cards to my deck. I can't even tell you how rewarding and fun that feels again and it feels like the fun aspect is finally returning to Splinterlands.
Here are my two pack openings
Overall it feels really good to be back in and playing and that might have been something missing from players recently or lack there of. If the games not fun and honestly I can't play it then why the heck would I dump any more money into it?
A change I'm going to make on this account. Any earned profits from this article and future articles will all be sold off to buy DEC until $0.00095 and some SPS.
