One of the new abilities that was introduced with the soulbound reward cards was the Weapons Training. What it does is it gives monsters adjacent to the one with Weapons Traning one-half of its attack type.
Basically, it provides monsters that otherwise is purely defensive or buff/debuff type the capability to deal damage of its own. Strategically, placing it in-between two monsters takes full advantage of this ability. And being a Life splinter aligned player, the only Weapons Training creature that I had a chance to use is Aves Sturgis.
Out of the three attack types that can be shared using Weapons Training, magic is probably the most advantageous. The drawback to this is that to balance it out, Aves Sturgis was designed to have a relatively low magic damage. It also has weak health and slow speed.
But he also has Holy Shield on top of the 1 armor so there is some survivability which hopefully is long enough to deal significant damage to the enemy monsters. He also has Rust which might come in handy for the ally melee tank or backline ranged units. This can also negate the armor buff that Grandmaster Rathe provides rendering Void Armor useless.
My featured battle is a 27-mana bronze match with a Keep Your Distance rule set which bans all melee monsters. You can check the link here. It's basically a mirror-match strategy between two General Sloan summoners. The difference is that I employ the new soulbound reward cards, Aves Sturgis, Clockwork Aide, and Venari Marksrat.
I positioned Aves Sturgis between my tank, Pelacor Conjurer and my speed buff monster, Clockwork Aide. Both of them have no innate attacks so they both gain 1 magic attack.
This formation relies heavily on Pelacor Conjurer's ability to dodge incoming attacks instead of taking it head on. But since it's on the bronze level, it still doesn't have Magic Reflect and Phase making it vulnerable to my team's combined 4 magic damage.
My opponent's Pelacor Conjurer prematurely dies in the first round with Djinn Renova replacing him for the tank role. And since I was superior in speed thanks to Clockwork Aide, my own Conjurer evaded a handful of attacks including those deadly barrages from Pelacor Arbalest.
Although I gained an upper hand in the initial rounds, the heavy damage from Pelacor Arbalest proved to be a serious threat. Even at a single speed point, the multiple blows still managed to land, killing my monsters. The match climaxed at a two-unit standstill. Luckily, I was able to strike down my opponent's Time Mage first, leaving Pelacor Arbalest a sitting duck in the frontline awaiting execution.
