There are three days left in the season, and finally after a Win Streak of 7, I was able to make it into Champion League 1, which is where I will stop for the season. I was really, really hoping to get in there faster and challenge for a higher position, but so late in the season, I am far from confident in my ability to stay there and I have the tendency to have runs where I will lose 250 points in a row. If there was a bonus for "Lose Streaks", I would likely do well.
But, with a little luck at the end, I was only 2 points under moving up the level, so beating for 36 points gave me a boost into equal 11th position on the ladder. Though I am now equal 12th, with a three-way tie. And, it is nice to have three [KOG] Shield of Glory members above me, with
tied, and then
in seventh, and
in third.
These positions will likely change a bit, but I am hoping that I can hold on for what would be only my second time in a DEC-winning position. I would be very lucky to hold on for 40K, but I might scrape for 20K perhaps. That at least would cover some of my rental costs to be able to compete.
I like to start the season with full energy tokens and I am currently running empty, as to finish off the season, I am playing in the Wild format. I don't have many Wild cards, and I don't rent for it, so it is more of a bonus to see what I can do and stay in practice with what I have. I Brawl in Wild Gold normally and since the bots (supposedly) aren't in Brawls, I have been doing much better, even without suitable cards.
I finished mid-Diamond 1 last season:
That streak was combined from the season prior, and carried over, so it looks more impressive than it was. However, considering the shortcomings of my Wild deck, it isn't that bad, which hints at the power creep on newer decks. But I was able to play more games than I will this season.
After starting mid-D3, I am currently in mid-D2, and I am hoping to get into Champions, but I will have to both play well and get some RNG luck, which is very rarely on my side, and often on the wrong side completely. After playing many rounds with my Guild mates, I think they have realized I am not exaggerating the problems I have with this.
And, speaking of power creep...
A smidge over half the REBELLION presale packs have been sold, and including the 29,000 bonus packs included for bulk orders, it is closing in on 60% in total. While it feels like forever ago, the presale has only been running for nine days, with 21 left to run. And, whatever doesn't get sold in the presale, will be burned. That reduces the number of the two Promo cards in circulation, as well as the total number of packs that will ever exist.
I don't mind if they don't sell.
But, it would be better for the game if they did.
The REBELLION pack is going to shake up the game heavily for many players, as the new summoners are going to affect gameplay, and then the expected power creep, combined with the relegation of Untamed editions to Wild, are going to impact hard. It is going to be an all new ballgame in Modern, but it is also going to mean that Wild is going to be affected too. And with the staking for reward cards, there might not be that many extras on the rental markets.
It is quite a compelling tradeoff.
I don't know whether there will ever be a positive ROI on these packs, but given the current conditions in the greater crypto markets, it might just break even or better over time, as long as the next release isn't following too closely behind. LAND can soak up a lot of playable cards, some are getting relegated and new releases in gameplay and economy, it is going to get messy.
I will just keep chugging along, doing what I can to have some fun and not focus too much on what it has all cost.
Now 14th....
