Everyone playing Splinterlands has probably seen the new Modern and Wild update that was rolled out a few days ago. Just like everyone else, this was an update that I have been really waiting on for various reasons. Despite getting released a few days back, I just started to play in modern today because I've been very busy with other things lately. The update is good but the experience isn't exactly what I anticipated.
I thought that playing Modern in silver would be a breeze just like how it was with the old update but I did not anticipate how difficult it would be to form new strategies with the old cards all gone. Most of my old strategies involved a lot of older cards so now those strategies are basically useless and I need to form new ones. This is kind of frustrating considering how fast I had to learn them as a newbie but since I don't want to play in Wild I guess I have to get to creating new strategies. Playing in modern will take some getting-used-to for me but I don't mind.
Playing in modern might be tough for me right now but I still love the idea of it all. One pro of it is that I spend way less on rentals than before. As a newbie, I rent most of my cards and sometimes I don't make a profit playing with the rentals. With modern, I will rent just the newer cards and so increase my chances of making a profit with them.
Added to the cheaper rentals is the high DEC earnings from ranked battles right now! With the old system I used to earn barely 2 DEC playing in silver. Sometimes I would earn less than 1 DEC and because of this, I did not even regard ranked battle rewards. All I wanted was to get more chests. With the amount of DEC I earn in modern, I actually want to fight battles and win. Here is what I've earned in DEC winning just a few battles so far;
From just 8 wins and with a rating less than 1600, I have earned over 62 DEC. With these high DEC earnings, many of my rentals will pay for themselves and I can make a higher amount of profit from the chests. These DEC rewards will obviously become less when more people start to play modern so I'll make the most of it while it lasts. I wonder how this will change when SPS is introduced in ranked rewards.
Getting Things Done!
Of course the modern update helps gives newbies like me a little bit more focus on the cards to buy. For the past few weeks I have been purchasing cards and trying to max them up for the silver league. Like I've said in older posts, I'm starting with my favorite splinter, Earth, after which I would work on Life. So lets see all the Earth cards (Reward and CL) that I have gotten so far and know the ones that are silver level;

That's it for the Earth cards that I have right now. I will keep trying to max up the cards that I use as the weeks go by. I'll also try not to focus so much on Earth so I don't miss good opportunities in other splinters.
Many Untamed cards are expensive so I'll just keep renting the ones I can't buy. My focus right now is to buy Chaos Legion cards before they are all out of print and their prices pump.
IN OTHER DEVELOPMENTS...
After about 7 weeks of playing splinterlands, I finally have a guild! After the last maintenance window leading to the Modern & Wild update, I was greeted with an invite to join a guild. It was a pleasant surprise and I quickly accepted.
My guild is called Forbidden Summoners and I hope to build with the other members for a very long time. My first brawl started today and I'm so excited to earn those other stuff I don't see in ranked battles. I'm still learning about guilds and brawls. It's all part of my quest to explore the entire splinterlands. Let's see how it goes from here...
