Greetings, Splinterlands!

In this week's episode, we were honoured to have Yabapmatt pop in for a good old fashioned chinwag!
In the last Town Hall, as Aggie introduced Matt, he said "Let's welcome the person who everyone looks forward to hearing the most, Yabapmatt!"
And, for me anyway, Matt is the person I look forward to seeing and listening to the most in Town Halls. And the conversation with him did not disappoint.
Now, many of us have been playing this game for a while, but how many of you actually know the origins of how Splinterlands started?
Well, Matt takes us back in time to that original meeting with Aggie in a Philadelphian diner where they discussed their ideas to create the web3 blockchain game that we know and love, Splinterlands, or as it was originally known, Steemmonsters. And spoiler alert, no consumption of beer was had, just a couple of Diet Cokes on the rocks!
However, the real origins of Splinterlands goes back even further to the financial crisis of 2008. Matt talks about how difficult this time was for him, he lost his job and his investments were hit hard. From this, he started to understand how corrupt the whole financial system is and how it hurts the majority of the world's population.
This in turn led Matt towards learning about Bitcoin, and in his own words explains how "Bitcoin is the answer to this screwed up system."
And to this day, he still believes in Bitcoin as that store of value, often attending Bitcoin conventions and doing his best to explain to people the importance of this technology.
It was such an eye opening conversation and at the end of it I was even more convinced that we are so fortunate to have such wonderful people in Matt and Aggie, guiding us along this journey that we have undertaken.
