Upgrading your cards periodically is an absolutely essential practice; for those very same cards—which perhaps didn't seem particularly impressive to you initially—can, once leveled up, become capable of playing a pivotal role in your strategy. Therefore, in every season, you should make it a point to review all the cards in your deck at least once; and if you find that any of them are ready to be leveled up, you should upgrade them immediately. Following this very process today, I specifically filtered out the Gladius card set within my deck and discovered that I possessed a card that was fully ready to advance to Level 3. Consequently, I clicked on this card; as you can observe in the screenshot below, it had previously been upgraded to Level 2 with 5 copies. Now, having acquired 9 additional copies, the card—with a total of 14 copies—was ready to be upgraded to Level 3. So, I selected all the copies and clicked on the 'Combine' button.
Although this card was already quite attractive given its Mana cost, surprisingly, I hadn't played it for nearly two months—likely because the need simply hadn't arisen. This is because I possess several other awesome cards from this set; and since the rules allow the use of only one card from this specific set per battle, the competition among these cards becomes quite intense, meaning that only the best possible card for the given situation secures a spot in the team. This presents a significant challenge regarding the usage of cards from this set; however, if you wish to utilize all your Gladius set cards—just like any other cards—without any restrictions, you can play battles in Wild Mode. As far as I know, no specific rules or regulations apply to cards from this set—or any other set, for that matter—within that mode.
Costing a mere 5 Mana, this Water Element card was equipped with 2 Melee Attack power (at Level 2), along with 4 Speed—an increase of +1 from Level 1—as well as 3 Armor and 4 Health. Furthermore, it possessed the entire set's common Bloodlust ability—which would boost all of this card's stats by +1 after every killing attack—along with the Opportunity ability, which served to target the opponent's weakest card. While these stats are decent enough, consider a scenario where the opponent possesses one or more cards with "Opportunity" abilities; in such a case, what becomes of this card, and how many rounds would it actually manage to survive on the battlefield to execute attacks? Therefore, you would benefit either from an increase in this card's attack power—allowing it to inflict significant damage upon the enemy, even if it survives for fewer rounds—or, alternatively, it would be better if its health were directly improved, as that would slightly increase its chances of enduring on the battlefield for a longer duration. Incidentally, under certain circumstances, a "Shield" ability could also be added to provide it with an extra layer of protection; however, since this is merely a "Common" card, I didn't really expect it to receive that level of extensive upgrades. Well, thankfully, upgrading it to Level 3 resulted in a +1 increase in its attack power—which is actually quite a solid upgrade. Nevertheless, I will still rarely use this card in battles—particularly while I am playing in "Modern" or "Brawl" formats—because, as I mentioned earlier, under normal conditions in these modes, you are restricted to including only one card from this specific set in your team lineup; and for that single slot, I currently have several other, far superior options available to me. That said, it remains true that whenever I do play in "Wild" mode, this card will undoubtedly prove to be quite useful.
Splinterlands isn't an easy place, but that's what makes it even more fun. A perfect strategy takes into account many factors, including stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and more. That's why it's even more important to consider all these factors when developing a strategy. Add good cards to your deck, but also work on improving your strategies, and strive to win as many battles as possible!🔥
