Desde niño hago recorridos en una montaña cercana a mi casa por diversas causas. Hace más de 9 años me encontré con un cactus columnar (Pilosocereus lanuginosus) que se ve desde mi casa, porque es muy grande, y pensé en quitarle del tallo dos partes que le estaban creciendo para sembrarlas en el patio de mi casa.
Since I was a child I've been hiking on a mountain near my house for various reasons. More than 9 years ago I came across a columnar cactus (Pilosocereus lanuginosus) that can be seen from my house, because it is very large, and I thought of removing two parts of its stem that were growing to plant them in the yard of my house.
Al regresar a casa lo que hice fue cortar en dos la parte más pequeña y sembrarlas, la parte más grande la sembré sin cortarla.
When I returned home what I did was to cut the smaller part in two and plant them, the larger part I planted without cutting it.
Los cactus sembrados se mantuvieron en latencia y luego de transcurridos 7 meses ya se podía apreciar que empezaron a crecer por el alargamiento de color verde brillante en las puntas que hacía contraste con el color verder más opaco del resto.
The planted cacti remained in dormancy and after 7 months you could already see that they started to grow by the bright green elongation at the tips that contrasted with the duller green color of the rest.
La parte cortada que no tenía punta intentó prosperar generando brotes, no obstante, su apariencia siempre era mostrándose en malas condiciones. En la siguiente fotografía se aprecia cuando tenía 9 meses de sembrada.
The cut part that did not have a tip tried to thrive by generating shoots, however, its appearance was always in poor condition. In the following photograph it can be seen when it was 9 months old.
La siguiente fotografía es de los 3 cactus cuando han transcurridos 22 meses desde que los sembré. En el de la parte cortada que no tenía punta se puede ver uno de los brotes un poco más grande, pero finalmente, luego de tanto tiempo intentando sobrevivir, ese cactus murió.
The following photograph is of the 3 cacti when 22 months have passed since I planted them. In the one with the cut part that had no tip you can see one of the shoots a little bit bigger, but finally, after so much time trying to survive, that cactus died.
El mes pasado se me ocurrió subir a la montaña para encontrar nuevamente, luego de 9 años, al cactus pariente de los cactus sembrados en el patio de mi casa. La siguiente fotografía es cuando me encontraba muy cerca del cactus, que destaco se encuentra casi en la cima de la montaña.
Last month it occurred to me to go up the mountain to find again, after 9 years, the cactus parent of the cacti planted in the yard of my house. The following photograph is when I was very close to the cactus, which I emphasize is almost at the top of the mountain.
Curiosamente, llegando encontré en el suelo descendencia del cactus creciendo, que no encontré la primera vez.

El cactus pariente además de grande se ve majestuoso.
The parent cactus is not only large but also looks majestic.

After a while I got up and came down the mountain. From the roof of my house, next to the water tank, I captured the following photograph where the red arrow points to the location of the parent cactus on the mountain.
