En mi tercera publicación para la serie Las muñecas de Malú, les presento al Sandmännchen, el personaje infantil de origen alemán, más conocido y querido por todos los niños de ese país.
Entre esas tantas historias contadas por Malú, conocí al Sandmännchen, el hombrecillo de arena, dibujo animado que todas las noches, a las 7:00 p.m., era protagonista de un programa de la televisión alemana, donde comenzaba por convidar a ver un cuento corto, seguidamente invitaba a los niños a dormir y para finalizar, dirigiéndose directamente a la cámara, arrojaba una arenilla que por arte de magia, atravesaba la pantalla de los televisores, tras lo cual todos los niños y niñas que veían el programa se iban felizmente a la cama. Uno de ellos era mi esposo, que aunque era un poco mayor y no se dormía, no se perdía ni uno solo de esos programas, porque le gustaban mucho y sobre todo lo cautivaba la hermosa canción de cuna que todos los días acompañaba la transmisión, la cual pueden apreciar en el video que colocaré al final de este contenido.
De la misma misma manera, en internet se consiguen múltiples videos del programa, así como cualquier cantidad de páginas, con gran variedad de contenidos, acerca de este personaje y el importante lugar que ocupa sentimentalmente en el pueblo alemán, al punto que al día de hoy, en la televisión alemana, todas las noches, el Sandmännchen, lanza su arenilla mágica que convida a todos los niños y niñas a dirigirse directamente a sus camas. Programas que diariamente están a la disposición en la página oficial https://www.sandmann.de/
El hecho de que el Sandmännchen, un programa de televisión con más de 60 años de emisión, siga manteniendo un arraigo tan profundo me resulta muy llamativo. Lo considero un indicio de la gran fuerza cultural del pueblo alemán, un digno ejemplo a seguir.
Como era de esperar, Malú tenía su respectivo Sandmännchen, pieza que ocupaba un sitial de honor, dentro de la colección. Fue adquirido cuando la República Democrática Alemana RDA celebraba su 22º aniversario, como indica el broche que el muñeco lleva colocado en la parte superior derecha de su chaqueta y que nos indica que este Sandmännchen fue adquirido hace 52 años. Un recuerdo alemán, emblemático, no sólo por ser el famoso Sandmännchen, sino también por estar asociado a ese aniversario.
El Sandmännchen, fue uno de los muñecos que recibí después del grupo, que inicialmente les mostré en la primera publicación que hice, donde les contaba que había recibido como regalo un gran número de muñecas de la colección que perteneció a mi suegra Malú.
Como anteriormente les decía, este muñeco data de hace 52 años y notamos que el paso del tiempo ha dejado huellas en él, pues se le aprecia un severo deterioro, especificamente del plástico con el cual fue elaborada su cara, el cual presenta multiples grietas, como podrán observar en la fotografía que les muestro a continuación:
En este conjunto de fotografías también se puede apreciar que el muñequito está vestido con una elegante chaqueta color verde, acompañada por un pantalón de color marrón oscuro. Usa una botas que hacen juego con el cuello, los botones, la capa y la bolsita donde lleva su arenilla mágica, todo esto del mismo color beige de las botas. También podemos ver que el fieltro es el material con el que está hecho todo su vestuario.
Al revisarle la cara noté, que fue elaborado con un plástico brillante con aspecto de cáscara hueca, con poca resistencia al paso del tiempo, puesto que tiende a resquebrajarse con facilidad. En vista de esto, decidí realizarle una restauración casera, para lo cual opte por un recubrimiento donde apliqué una técnica similar a la cartapesta para lo cual usé cola blanca y servilletas de papel.
Limpié muy bien la cara del sandmännchen con un algodón impregnado en alcohol, después le pasé directamente una capa de cola blanca por todo su rostro, dejé secar por unos minutos, luego usé unos cuantos pedacitos de servilleta de papel y se los adherí al rostro con la cola blanca, procedimiento que repetí unas cuatro veces. Como resultado le dejé la cara totalmente cubierta, y dejaron de verse las grietas que quedaron totalmente rellenas con la pasta creada entre la cola blanca y los pedacitos de servilletas, finalmente le pasé una última capa de cola blanca diluida en un poquito de agua.
Proceso de restauración del sandmännchen
El siguiente paso fue pasarle una lija muy fina, limpiar y pintarle el rostro de color piel clara, con pintura al frío. Una vez seco, procedí a pintarle los ojos y la boca. Luego le di dos capas de satín para darle un acabado lustros. Finalmente, sustituí el material de su cabellera con algodón, pues su pelo también lucía muy deteriorado.

Finalizo esta publicación con una hermosa fotografía del archivo libre Wikimedia Commons, donde aparece una hermosa y alegre escultura de sandmänncher, sentado en un banco que se encuentra ubicado en un parque, así como también les dejo un video que nos muestra la introducción del programa, que corresponde a la llegada del sandmännchen, mientras suena la música y la primera estrofa de la canción Sandmann querido Sandmann. Seguidamente, hay un corte donde estaría el desarrollo del cuento de la noche, e inmediatamente, viene la despedida donde él invita a dormir y lanza su arenilla mágica, durante toda la escena, suena la música y la segunda estrofa de la referida canción.

In my third post for the series Malu's Dolls, I introduce you to Sandmännchen, the children's character of German origin, best known and loved by all children in that country.
Among the many stories told by Malú, I met the Sandmännchen, the little sandman, a cartoon that every night at 7:00 p.m. was the protagonist of a German television program, where he began by inviting the children to watch a short story, then invited them to go to sleep and finally, with his gaze directed directly at the camera, threw a little sand that magically crossed the television screen, after which all the children who watched the program happily went to bed. One of them was my husband, who although he was a little older and did not fall asleep, did not miss a single one of those programs, because he liked them very much and above all he was captivated by the beautiful lullaby that every day accompanied the transmission, which you can appreciate in the video that I will place at the end of this content.
In the same way, on the Internet you can find multiple videos of the program, as well as any number of pages, with a great variety of contents, about this character and the important place that he occupies sentimentally in the German people, to the point that today, on German television, every night, the Sandmännchen, throws his magic sand that invites all children to go directly to their beds. The fact that the Sandmännchen, a television program with more than 60 years of broadcasting, still maintains such a deep rootedness is very striking to me. I consider this an indication of the great cultural strength of the German people, a worthy example to follow.
As expected, Malú had her respective Sandmännchen, a doll that occupied a place of honor in the collection. It was acquired when the German Democratic Republic (GDR) celebrated its 22nd anniversary, as indicated by the brooch that the doll has placed on the upper right side of his jacket and that tells us that this Sandmännchen was acquired 52 years ago. A German souvenir, emblematic, not only for being the famous Sandmännchen, but also for being associated with that anniversary.
The Sandmännchen, was one of the dolls I received after the group, which I initially showed you in the first publication I made, where I told you that I had received as a gift a large number of dolls from the collection that belonged to my mother-in-law Malú.
As I said before, this doll dates from 52 years ago and we notice that the passage of time has left traces in it, because it shows a severe deterioration, specifically of the plastic with which his face was made, which has multiple cracks, as you can see in the picture below:
In this set of photographs you can also see that the doll is dressed in an elegant green jacket, accompanied by dark brown pants. He wears boots that match the collar, the buttons, the cape and the little bag where he carries his magic sand, all in the same beige color as the boots. We can also see that felt is the material from which all her costumes are made.
When I checked the face, I noticed that it was made with a shiny plastic with a hollow shell appearance, with little resistance to the passage of time, since it tends to crack easily. In view of this, I decided to make a homemade restoration, for which I opted for a coating where I applied a technique similar to cartapesta for which I used white glue and paper napkins.
I cleaned very well the face of the sandmännchen with a cotton soaked in alcohol, then I passed directly a layer of white glue all over his face, I let it dry for a few minutes, then I used a few pieces of paper napkin and adhered them to his face with the white glue, procedure that I repeated about four times. As a result I left her face totally covered, as a result the cracks were no longer visible, they were totally filled with the paste created between the white glue and the napkin pieces, finally I applied a last coat of white glue diluted in a little bit of water.
Sandmännchen restoration process
The next step was to sand her with very fine sandpaper, clean and paint her face in light skin color, with cold paint. Once dry, I proceeded to paint her eyes and mouth. Then I gave her two coats of satin to give her a lustrous finish. Finally, I replaced the material of her hair with cotton, as her hair also looked very deteriorated.
I hope you liked the final result of the restoration. For my part I was very satisfied with this work, it really met my expectations.
