Is it possible that I am here again, in the Museum Community, so soon after my last post on the subject? Well, that's how it is when the cultural centre, where I went for coffee today, had a small collective exhibition. The exhibition is called A Sea of Encounters and it presents a selection of works by the following artists: Carmela García, Manuela Gómez, Paqui González, Alfonso Guillén, María J. Kaspers, Pepi Martínez, Bippan Norberg, Olga Reinoso, Julia Serrano and Cecilia Vicedo.
It is organized by the association Crearte and can be visited until January 13.
I found out that this association that brings together people with artistic interests was founded in 2008, and that they meet twice a week to paint and help each other improve. It is open to everyone, it doesn't matter if you are a professional painter or just like to paint as a hobby. I suppose they paint as a need to express themselves, as it happens with all arts, however, these paintings can also be purchased. Some of them already had the price tag and the painter's phone number.
The techniques used in these paintings were mainly acrylic or oil on canvas, but there were also some collages and mixed methods. I will go through the exhibition hall from left to right.
The first section of three works was created by Olga Reinoso. The technique is a mixture of her writings, collage and painting on canvas. The names of the paintings from left to right are: Venganza en la fosa (Revenge in the pit), Algodón de azúcar (Cotton candy) and Cuando digo mi nombre (When I say my name).
The artist Carmela García brought these three Bellezas de color (Beauties of colour). At first, I just saw the pretty women and thought they were just paintings. When I got closer I noticed that it was mixed techniques because look at the details I found. They had their own earrings and necklaces.
What era would you return to through this painting? Maybe we would go back one hundred years in time... Well, yes, Cecilia Vicedo named this scene Bel época (Belle Époque or Beautiful Era). My mom has a photo of my great-grandmother when she was young, from the beginning of the 20th century. This painting reminded me of her and that photo.
Nature can't be missing from a collective exhibition, right? And how great, as nature is a source of inspiration and beauty. Alfonso Guillén brought us these fresh scenes called (from left to right) Cala de las cuevas (Cove of the caves), Improvisto, Colores de los fiordos (Colours of the fjords).
If nature is present, why not see animals too? María Jose Kaspers left these three paintings Untitled (Sin título). Hmm... let me think, I would name the first one - Jump to Freedom, the giraffe... Temptation, and the parrot - Enjoying the Sunset.
How would you call them?
Let's travel to... maybe Japan? Thanks to Julia Serrano we can enjoy activities like Walking around the city (Paseando por la ciudad), we can cross a bridge under The Cherry Trees (Los cerezos) or maybe see a Warrior in the city (Guerrero en la ciudad).
My favourite from this section is the Cherry Trees.
If you fancy going to the beach these days then it is easy to do it through the works of Pepi Martínez. Whether you want to spend your time Diving (Buceando) or Watching the sea (Mirando al mar), you are in the right place to do it. In this exhibition hall!
Paquita Gónzales, the author of these two ladies left them without title... We can do another round of the name-giving game haha, I will just call them Blooming Ladies.
Oh, we are back to the sea... For good reason, the exhibition is called A Sea of Encounters, we close this little tour with these three paintings of Bippan Norberg. A nice Sunrise, by the Little Island and then always we are back to the city. Encounters of all kinds, as life itself.
