The Last Sunrise
As a nurse i see lots of people die. Most are not very pretty and not very peaceful. It is a thunder of equipment, CPR and an explosion of mess and blood and stress all round. People are shouting, people are madly trying to get medications in to try and save a life. CPR is brutal. Amazing. Life Saving. but Brutal.
It's not often that we see a peaceful death, less often that we see someone that knows "i will die tomorrow" Normally by that point they are in blissful unawareness with a cocktail of pain/sleepy medications.
This night, a patient knew that tomorrow " i will die". I can't go into the specifics, because of patient confidentiality. But he knew, we knew, everyone knew.
He wanted to go home to see the sky. No chances there. He would have died taking him to the door of the hospital. Instead, i said that we have beautiful sunrises on the balcony... perhaps i could film it and show him on my phone.
we were one wall from the outside but there was no way to get him there. He was too sick.
Here are the photos of his "Last Sunrise"
The sky put on a glorius display
The purple sky into a golden blue. He showed me pictures of his dogs, and i showed him my garden. He didn't sleep. He was so calm so peaceful.
I cried when i said good bye... he was sad that he had made me cry.
Today is another day
another sunset and another sunrise. I'll post tonights photos tomorrow.
Thanks for reading
