With the 69th (nice) selection in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans selected a pretty massive and highly skilled offensive tackle from The Ohio State University by the name of Nicholas Petit-Frere.
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 315 Pounds
A huge percentage of a football team's roster is going to be that of a large human. Offensive and defensive lineman. In the NFL draft it's never a bad idea to draft a big dude and hope for the best. Hopefully a pro GM and scout department do some research and try to pick the best fits, but in general it's never a bad idea to draft a lineman. Doing so just adds depth and competition in a vitally important position group.
Titans GM Jon Robinson has consistently made it a priority to have a steady bullpen of quality lineman. More specifically, offensive lineman. This draft is no different and that's amazing.
I had never heard of Nicholas Petit-Frere but he looks big and looks to have strong legs and just a well coordinated lower body. His legs are always moving and chopping just like I'd see a pro do. He is a physical player that plays fast from what I see. He is a dude ready for battle.
In general, Ohio State is a great football school and these past several years have been no different. Throughout Ohio State's success the past two seasons Petit-Frere was the team's starting tackle.
I say tackle because he played both left and right tackle for the Buckeyes at very high levels! Impressively, Petit-Frere was awarded with Second-Team All-Big Ten honors at right tackle in 2020, and then the very next season he switched to left tackle and was named a First-Team All-Big Ten player! Prestigious awards at two different positions is impressive and really displays his tremendous versatility.
Petit-Frere also earned Second-Team All-American honors in 2021.
The Titans lost several starting offensive lineman like Rodger Saffold III and David Quessenberry in the off-season. Some other offensive lineman are getting a little older. There has been a bit of a gray area in general on the Titans o-line. Adding a good young prospect like Petit-Frere on the line is a logical idea.
I like Nicholas's skills and background in college. This seems like a clutch pick by J-Rob and company. Head coach Mike Vrabel hopefully got some good intel on Petit-Frere thanks to Vrabel's history at Ohio State.
Here's his initial introductory press conference as a pro, and as a Titan! He seems like a good kid.
