Well the Titans made a pretty cool selection I believe by drafting a very athletic, big tight end in Cincinnati's Josh Whyle.
Whyle seems to be over 6'6' and the Titans actually listed him at 6'7'. He is about 245 pounds-ish and Mike Vrabel actually said publicly he'd like to see Whyle put on some weight and be bigger. This selection feels like a Vrabel pick in many ways. Vrabel has a close relationship with some folks at Cincinnati and apparently Whyle and Vrabel have spoken before in the past.
Whyle didn't put up jaw dropping stats in college, but he did have fair stats overall and was pretty consistent as well. He seemed to be a starter or at least heavily used from his sophomore to senior seasons. Three solid years of production where he averaged 29 receptions, 337 yards, and 5 touchdowns.
Whyle seems like a perfect storm of decent stats, solid looking tape and honestly sort of untapped potential to an extent. Watching Whyle's highlights it seemed like he could have been maybe used more than he was in college. In addition, coming out of high school, Whyle had some really stellar offers from arguably more noteworthy schools. Two Big Ten schools and five SEC schools.
He's really like a natural athlete and runner out there. Not very explosive but he covers ground really pretty gracefully.
All in all I really like the selection. Not a WR but a talented athletic pass catching TE to pair with promising second year TE Chig Okonkwo.
Maybe Mike Vrabel is trying to re-create the once upon a time great TE duo that New England had with Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. Vrabel wasn't on the Patriots at that time but I'm sure he saw them play. Hernandez and Gronk were paired only about two years after Vrabel left and Vrabel was still in the league.
Can't wait to see what he can bring to this team in the next few years!
