Well, here we are. I have actually managed to talk myself into doing a writing challenge. I'm not sure what moment of temporary insanity inspired that...
First off, you can read about HiveBloPoMo here if you're interested.
Topics, Topics, Topics...
There's actually a calendar of topics for this challenge, and I've decided that I'll probably use quite a few of those, just to stretch my writing outside my typical beaten (writing) path.
We'll see.
At least some of the time I'm sure I'll revert to "random rambles."
So what are my goals with this?
For one, to get a little more steady with my creativity. I tend to work in fits and starts, and maybe this will inspire me to actually show up every day.
Badges!
I do want another one of HiveBuzz's nifty "monthly author" badges... sure I do!
I have tried NaNoWriMo many times, and always came up short. Maybe I will succeed at this because blogging is different from trying to write a novel, or even a non-fiction book. My short little span of attention seems to lend itself well to blogging. A blog post stands alone. I don't have to develop characters or worry about maintaining a story line.
It's ironic, really. When I was a kid and told people that I wanted to grow up and "write stories" I wasn't yet aware that I am far better at life and non-fiction than I am at telling actual stories.
So, GOALS...
NaNoWriMo sets as a goal that you "write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days."
So I suppose it would be a somewhat nifty goal to see if I end up writing 50,000 words' worth of blog posts, in November. For the purposes of counting up that, I'm going to include both the challenge posts as well as other blog posts I might add along the way.
You see, I'm not expecting this to be instead of my regular writing... more of a side-by-side thing.
Will I actually end up writing 1,667 words a day on average?
Seems unlikely.
One of the primary reasons I seemed to fail at NaNoWriMo is that writing that much every day assumes that you don't have a life outside writing. Writing is actually fairly far down the list of things I try to get to, on a daily basis.
So I suppose I will have to prioritize my writing further up the list, if I want to make it to the end of this challenge!
Any other goals? Not really. Just finishing this challenge is the goal!
Thanks for stopping by, and till the next one!
How about YOU? Are you doing this month long challenge? Or one of the others I've fecently come across? Have you ever done any 30-day writing challenges? Did you finish?
