And so, we have reached Day ELEVEN of HiveBloPoMo; still hanging in there... barely!
You can read more about HiveBloPoMo here. It has definitely been a worthy challenge, so far.
Today's writing prompt is "Share 5 Tree photos for Thursday Tree Love" I can do that... and it suits me fine as perhaps a briefer post than usual, because it's Mrs. Denmarkguy's and my anniversary today. So, I have elsewhere to be!
Looking up into the redwoods...
Trees, Trees, Trees...
I love trees!
Those of you who visit here regularly probably figured that out on account on how often I use trees in illustrating my posts.
That first picture above was taken in Big Sur, California, in a grove of very old redwood trees. They are truly majestic.
The "Lip Tree"
Majestic in a different way, this tree is also in Big Sur and is an ancient oak that's covered in these "lip like" protrusions or wounds... known locally just as the "lip tree."
Mount Shasta campground
This was taken a few years back on the Solstice... we visited Mt. Shasta in northern California, and these huge trees have been untouched for centuries; this was probably at about 5,000 or 6,000 feet.
It's places like this that give rise to my saying that "Nature is my church."
Silver birches in the breeze
Not nearly as impressive or dramatic, some of my favorite trees are the silver birches that grow on my Auntie's property in Denmark where we sometimes spend summer holidays.
When the breeze comes, they make a soft whispering sound... and they remind me of being a child and sitting on the back porch with the adults, after dinner.
Joshua trees
Back to California, this time to the high desert... and the town of Joshua Tree (namesake of the tree, itself, as well as where the band U2 recorded their famous album of the same name) where they have this unique plant known as a "Joshua Tree."
We used to go to Joshua Tree regularly when my mother-in-law was still alive... and I loved these strange trees!
They are actually Yucca plants like you have in your pots or garden that keep growing and growing and growing under the right conditions. They are believed to be able to live up to 1,000 years!
Scrub Juniper, New Mexico
Of course, I also love trees for how they can offset something else you're taking a picture of... like a sunset.
The shot above was taken at Stardreaming Ranch, near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The tree is the same kind of red scrub junipers I lived around in Central Texas for many years.
Why we love trees... places to rest
I'm going to end this with another favorite shot of an ancient tree, this one also in Big Sur, at the side of a creek... and Mrs. Denmarkguy taking a break underneath.
Which, of course, is another of the many reasons why we love trees!
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your week!
