For today's prompt, I went back to the trusty Freewrite prompts and picked #24:
24. Write about a piece of furniture in the room you’re in.
Oh, that's easy. It's about the chair I am sitting in now. Or I should say the chair I am reclining in now. You see, I've always wanted to chill place to relax in my studio. I have a standard office chair, an ergonomic kneeling chair, a standing desk, and a chaise lounge. Those are a good mix of places to sit, stand, and lay down. But, sometimes I want to sit, but also recline while working on my laptop....like I am now.
I had been eyeballing some recliners to add to my studio, but that would really crowd my existing space. I was thinking I could get rid of a side table that I use for lighting and storage. By removing that side table, I would have just enough room to fit a recliner. Or at least that's what I hoped.
Then a few weeks ago I was picking up my phone from where it had fallen out of my hands. As I bent down, I saw something interesting. My office chair has three levers underneath the seat. The only one I really use is the lever to move the seat up and down to adjust for height. The second lever is to adjust the stiffness or looseness of the back. I don't really mess with that because I'm sitting at my computer. So I have it set to stiff and upright. Until that moment when I was picking up my phone from the floor, I had never paid attention to the third lever.
I thought, "Hmm...what does that third lever do?" So I lifted it up from its pushed-down state.
MY OFFICE CHAIR RECLINED!!!
It was amazing! I couldn't believe that for a couple of years now I've been thinking, "It sure would be nice to have a chair I could chill out in." And I had that chair in my possession the whole time! So while there is a part of me that wants to kick myself for not realizing I already had what I wanted, I'm mostly thrilled at this discovery.
The last few weeks have been absolutely glorious. When I want to chill out in my studio, all I do is flip that third lever, prop my feet up on the chaise lounge, and lean back. I'm a pretty happy camper these days.
