Looking at this first photo we could have a Christmasy feeling. A chimney, wooden furniture and floor, decoration, lights... Furthermore, for me, it would be a photo representing a warm tavern, somewhere in a German village. I can also imagine the outside of it, a huge house with the roof covered with snow. If you would happen to find yourself in that story, walking through the snow and not having anything else around, entering this warm place and getting a great dinner would be a blessing.
However, this image in my mind would not be completely truthful. Well, this IS a German restaurant, that is true, but the location of it is somewhere else. Believe it or not, we are going in this post to northeastern Italy. More precisely to a city called Vicenza. And no, nothing to see with snow, winter and all that imagination of mine. It is summer when we are visiting this place, at the beginning of July.
You might be confused now also with the timing of my posts, as I was posting from an Italian city Padua that I visited in August, and now Vicenza, from July. A bit upside-down and in reverse order, but that is how the inspiration came. Seeing the streaming sessions from HiveFest, checking out the posts from people being there and looking at the photos made me remember that we also had a mini hive meet-up in this city.
It's already a tradition - when we travel through that country, we meet , his girlfriend and the super lovely
and
. Last year we met in another place, close to Venice and Treviso, but this year we had our accommodation again in Vicenza. It was not a problem for them to come there, so we walked around the city centre together and had dinner later.
We knew this restaurant from previous years when we stayed in the same city. If you are Italian or have visited it as a tourist, maybe you have noticed that the restaurants are closed in the afternoon and open just around 7 p.m. The very first time we learned it hard way. We went on a city tour in the afternoon, thinking that we could just sit somewhere and have lunch. Well, it didn't happen that way. Everything was closed, and one of the first ones that opened was thing German restaurant, Bierstube Treff.
We didn't have a choice, it was dying from hunger or entering this one. And we loved it actually. I know, it sounds crazy to order pizza in a German restaurant in Italy, but that is what we had. And when you are hungry, you are not very picky.
Apart from satisfying our hunger, we liked the decoration in this place and the whole interior. The hearts that were hanging from the ceiling were my favourites, though these bells were also very interesting.
So this time we were again here, in Bierstube Treff with the Italian hivers, but outside, on the terraace. It has a great number of tables and two separate areas. Actually, the first was just a half-separated area, as one of the sides was closed and the other had two big doors. It was cosy with those white lights. We were sitting close to it and as it was warm, we were enjoying the open area where we got more fresh air.
The other small house-kind area was closed. I suppose those who want to have more privacy while eating chose to be there, inside. It was super nice, and again I have the feeling we should be somewhere else and not in Vicenza. And it definitely should be winter :D
The last photo will demonstrate that there is no snow around, as it would be in my fantasy. Just sun, in Vicenza, on one July late afternoon. If you are waiting for photos of the food, I have to disappoint you. When it arrived we attacked it immediately.
P.S. Publishing this post in the Saturday Memories community, as it was indeed yesterday - Saturday when I wrote this memory of a day from July... but I got distracted with playing the piano, listening to a lot of new music, watching the photos from the Hive Fest... so it happens that today is already Sunday and I am pressing this publish button just now 😂
