Crafts, handicrafts, DIY and art: [Youhive] ESP/ENG

On other occasions I have already told you about this wonderful YouTube channel called "Somos del Rancho" (We're from the Ranch) in which a couple of country girls show us their simple and rural lifestyle. Each of their videos has a unique touch of originality and spontaneity. They show us how they cook with firewood, how they fish and have fun in the river and much more. But alluding to this month's theme, today I would like to share with you the facet of these girls as artisans.

En otras ocasiones ya yo les he hablado acerca de este maravilloso canal de youtube llamado "Somos del Rancho" en el cuál un par de muchachas de campo nos muestran su estilo de vida sencillo y rural, cada uno de sus videos tiene un toque de originalidad y espontaneidad que son únicos, nos muestran como cocinan con leña, como pescan y se divierten en el río y muchas cosas más, pero haciendo alusión al tema de este mes, hoy me gustaría compartir con ustedes la faceta de estas chicas como artesanas.

To be honest, I don't do crafts. I don't have the patience for it, and the idea doesn't excite me. However, I do enjoy watching people do it. In fact, my wife loves it, and I often look for ideas for new projects with her, or she shares them with me. The women from Somos del Rancho usually work with recycled materials or natural elements. In this video, they're both using recycled materials, except for the paints, and watching the whole process is very satisfying for me. But it's even more satisfying for the person who starts and finishes the project. In the end, they created some beautiful paintings that are perfect for decorating any space in the home.

In the following video, they both worked on a wonderful project to organize shoes and clothes, but instead of using recycled materials, they mostly used natural elements, branches, and things they found in their own surroundings. They aren't afraid of hard work, but they are also very meticulous when it comes to working on the details, which is why the audience enjoys both the process and the result so much. Furthermore, the video is very encouraging because sometimes we refrain from having things at home that could be very useful, simply because we don't have enough money. But we could actually make them at home on a much smaller budget, learning in the process and gaining the satisfaction of having made them ourselves.

En el siguiente video ambas trabajaron en un maravilloso proyecto para organizar zapatos y ropa, pero en lugar de usar material reciclable, en su mayoría usaron elementos de la naturaleza, ramas y cosas que fueron encontrando en su propio entorno. Ellas no le temen al trabajo pesado, pero de la misma manera son muy delicadas a la hora de trabajar en los detalles, por eso la audiencia disfruta mucho tanto del proceso como del resultado. Por otra parte el video resulta muy alentador, porque a veces nos abstenemos de tener cosas en casa que podrían resultarnos muy útiles, solo porque n tenemos suficiente dinero, pero realmente podríamos fabricarlas en casa con un presupuesto mucho menor, obteniendo además aprendizaje en el proceso y la satisfacción de haberlo confeccionado uno mismo.

Another video I really liked is where they show us how they smooth the earth to make it look like a concrete floor. They use an ancestral technique passed down through generations among rural people, and I really like the video because it brings back old childhood memories. I grew up in a small town, but I had family who lived near a field, and it's absolutely true that they used this technique there because it was much more accessible and economical than having a concrete floor built, much less a ceramic one. Furthermore, the women mix the earth with the ashes left over from cooking on the fire, demonstrating that in the countryside, absolutely all resources can be used.

Otro video que me gustó bastante es donde ellas nos muestran su manera de alisar la tierra, para que parezca un piso (como los de cemento) ellas utilizan una técnica ancestral que fue pasando de generación en generación en la gente de campo, y me gusta mucho el video porque me trae viejos recuerdos de infancia. Y crecí en un pueblo, pero tenía familia que vivía hacia los lados de un campo, y es completamente cierto que allí usaban esta técnica, debido a que era mucho más accesible y económica que mandar a construir un piso de cemento, mucho menos de cerámica. Por otra parte las chicas mezclan la tierra con las cenizas que quedan luego de cocinar en el fogón, y de esta manera demuestran que en el campo se pueden aprovechar absolutamente todos los recursos.
