Some really nice pieces of silver and gold have hit the auction house this week and the last couple of weeks! I've been putting in some low to medium bids to hope to pick myself up a bargain or two... and this coming week, there are some others that I might actually aim to pick up at a decent price as well. I always have to keep that 22-25 percent auction house markup fee though... that can be quite a killer. There were three really nice gold nuggets on offer as well, but they have quite quickly blown past what I want to spend!!!
But in the last batch, I managed to pick up this colourised 2011 Royal Wedding one ounce of silver... unfortunately, it is faces on coins... which I really really hate... they tend to be done really badly, as it tends to make people look like weird featureless ghouls... I'm not sure that colourising the coin will make it that much better... but on the other hand, silver is silver, and this was a pretty stinky bid on this coin at only just better than spot... and somehow, it managed to sneak through!
So, the whole thing was still pretty pristinely packaged... the original case from Perth Mint, and the box as well! That is always a nice bonus, even though I usually don't like having the cases around... I've started to keep them though, I figure that they might not be valuable to me, but they are valuable when they are sold onwards...
... and here you go. Kate and William on their wedding... Okay, so colourising it does make it less terrible, but that is a pretty damn low bar to clear... I still think that people on coins still looks weird... and so does that smile with teeth...
The presentation case is nice, with a little stand on the back to prop it up when you want to show it off...
But unfortunately, the capsule seems to be glued into the case... or I wasn't prepared to exert more force to see if it would pop out. Which means that the coin does rotate over time, and it isn't easy to just rotate the capsule... you have to open it, and then replace the coin... and hope that it doesn't rotate while you pop the top back on... and you also have to pop the coin out to photograph the back...
... and the old monarch! The one that I will forever associate with Commonwealth coins... and silhouettes do make for good coin art...
The usual card details... handy to have... and an interesting number in the run!
... and bit more of the technical specs! So, I'm hoping that I'll pick up some more interesting lots in the coming week... there is really quite a lot that I'm really keen on! And some, I would even pay a little premium on as well, as they are real collector pieces and not just silver silver!
