Last night I picked up a new round but in many ways it isn’t really worthy of being added to the stack because I doubt there is any Precious Metals in there. Most likely its made of Cupronickel and the coin capsule might be worth more to my stack than the round itself. However, it’s significant to me in another way that IS kind of relevant to SGS. You see I won it after taking out the local Poker Tournament and I had previously set myself a goal of saving up all my Poker winnings so that I could one day afford a trip to Vegas. The Big Show!
Everyone knows that Vegas is a major hub for Poker and the World Series for 2023 has not long finished, but Vegas is ALSO the location for the Annual Meetup of the Silver Gold Stackers – who get together for a big Coin Show around March. There is always a bunch of other Shenanigans from some Usual Suspects that I probably shouldn’t write about since I’ve never been present. You know, "What happens on tour stays on tour" kind of thing. I may be attracted to this event like a Moth to Flame, but it has always sounded like a hell of a fun time and every year I live vicariously through the stories that do manage to leak out onto the Interwebs.
So far the only SGS members who have been able to attend have been our Brothers and Sisters of the USA and Canada. The North Americans have the advantage of proximity, but it’s the sort of event that is likely to grow in notoriety and I’m still hoping to be the first real International to be able to make the trip. However, it’s not cheap for me and I’ve recently (finally) moved my family into our freshly built dream home so I’m kind of broke at the moment. That’s why this little round has some significance. It’s representative of a promise that I’ve made to myself that I would put any winnings aside so that I could one day make the trip. I’ve still got a long way to go, but The Road to Vegas is in front of me and I know what I’ve got to do. The dream is alive!
