Introduction
I'm not a coin collector. My late father, who passed away in 2019, was an interesting lover of numismatics. I saw the sparkle in his eyes countless times when he acquired yet another coin for his collection. At the "Casa da Sorte" (Portugal), an employee recently told me that my father was a very keen enthusiast and that he had a very valuable collection.
My mother recently proposed that we sell it all to buy BTC. I was astonished. How could an 87-year-old woman dare to do that? 😆 😂 But I always remember the words of my late father: “I hope that when I die you don't sell this”.
I told my dear mother that we would only do that if we needed money to eat or for a medical emergency, but that's not the case. We belong to a class that, fortunately, still manages to pay for food and all the household bills (water, electricity, gas, internet, etc). The coin collection stays.
However, in memory of my father, I will regularly publish here part of the collection we inherited.
Coin: Armistice 11/11/11
Unfortunately, war is back on the world's agenda. As a tribute to my father, I'm starting with a commemorative coin from Portugal on the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.
According to Filatelia do Chiado , “On November 11, 1918, the armistice was signed, putting an end to World War I, a four-year conflict that involved around 30 countries, mobilizing approximately 50 million soldiers on all fronts. For this conflict, Portugal mobilized around 160,000 troops, who fought on the side of the Allies.
To mark this historic milestone, the Mint (in Portugal) minted a commemorative coin, designed by sculptor José Aurélio, featuring a representation of a red poppy, a symbol of rebirth and a tribute to the lives that fell on the battlefields.”
Author: José Aurélio

Of the two copies in the collection, this one was given to my father by a neighbor. It says “Given by Mr. Neves” in manuscript.
