Because of all the excitement, premiums on American Silver Eagles have skyrocketed. JM Bullion has an ASE sale, with a premium, of “only”, $12.99(USD), over spot Silver price. Did you know, the US Mint, in 2008, struck a 90% Constitutional Silver, American Silver Eagle, Silver Dollar? Most American Silver Eagles Dollars, are 99.9%, Fine Silver Bullion, at one Troy Ounce. This US Modern Commemorative Silver Dollar's, actual Silver weight, is smaller, 0.7734 Troy Ounce. US Modern Commemorative Silver Dollars were struck, on identical, Silver planchets/blanks, as Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars, of yesteryear. Today, The Local Coin Shop sells most of these beauties, for “junk Silver” prices, $24, same price, as two common, 90%, Silver, Half Dollars. In 2008 the Mint was selling these MCSDs for around $40, each. Today, the LCS, $24.
Compared final, mintage numbers, of these 2008s: 20,583,000 vs 119,204, makes it over 172x times rarer.
I picked up several other Modern Silver Dollars, including these Jamestown, VA, Proof & BU.
