Hello, another day, another coin. Today I have another Polish coin for you – specifically, a 10 zł coin featuring Piłsudski. You might think I already have one like this on my profile, but that’s actually a 5 zł version in good condition. This one has more silver content, but is in poorer condition. I bought the coin at a market in Nidzica along with a batch of other coins. Do take a look!

10 złoty 1936 Józef Piłsudski

This is a 10 złoty coin from 1936 featuring the image of Józef Piłsudski. And I’ll say straight away that the condition of this coin isn’t exactly brilliant. I won’t be spinning any fairy tales here about how beautiful it is and how it’s a feast for the eyes, because it isn’t. The coin is worn, it has scratches and scuffs, and you can tell that someone used it normally at some point or handled it rather roughly afterwards. But despite that, it’s still a pre-war ten-złoty coin, and you don’t just let things like that pass you by, especially when they turn up in a larger batch. I have a huge soft spot for coins from the Second Polish Republic, because they always have meaning. Even if the condition is really average, it’s still Poland, silver and a piece of our history. A 10-złoty coin isn’t exactly a small disc either. With a 5-złoty coin, you can feel the silver, but here there’s simply more of it and it looks more substantial in your hand straight away. Of course, my 5-złoty coin from my profile looks better, which is why it’s in my profile picture, and this 10-złoty coin probably doesn’t stand a chance. Oh well. Not every coin has to be a showpiece. Sometimes it’s just meant to go into an album, tick a box, or wait for a better replacement. That’s exactly what market purchases look like. You take a chance, you risk a bit, then you look at it calmly at home and only then do you realise what you’ve actually got.

On one side we have a portrait of Piłsudski facing left. The portrait is large, taking up almost the entire field, and even in a poorer condition it still does the job, because you know straight away what you’re dealing with. No need to guess, no need to look for coats of arms, no need to consult a catalogue. It’s Piłsudski, and that’s that. On my copy, the face is a bit worn, and the field isn’t pristine either, but the key features are visible. The other side features an eagle, the inscription ‘Rzeczpospolita Polska’, the year 1936 and the denomination of 10 zlotys. In the background there are rays, which look really cool on nicer specimens; here they’re a bit fainter, but you can still make out the whole idea. And now, yes, you could complain about the condition, but what’s the point? I bought it at a market, as part of a set, not as a gem from an auction for a fortune. If I’d wanted mint condition, I’d have had to look elsewhere and pay a different price. This piece is more of a working copy. It’s meant to be there, to sit in the collection and remind me that you don’t always come across only the nicest specimens. With pre-war Polish silver, there’s the advantage that someone will always take it, even if it isn’t perfect. People really like the Second Polish Republic, and I do too, so there’s no problem. If I come across a better ten-złoty coin one day, I’ll probably swap it out, and this one will either be passed on or kept as a duplicate. For now, it’s with me and it’s doing its job. It’s more silver than the five-złoty coin; Piłsudski is there, the year is there, the eagle is there, so it’s no tragedy. It may not be a coin to rave about, but it’s certainly one for a collection.

Witam, kolejny dzień,to kolejna moneta. Dziś mam dla was znowu polski krążek. a dokładniej 10 zł z wizerunkiem Piłsudskiego. Może się wydawać, że mam taką na profilowym, ale tam jest akurat wersja 5 zł w ładnym stanie. Teraz mam przed sobą więcej srebra, ale w gorszym stanie zachowania. Monetkę kupiłem na targu w Nidzicy razem z lotem innych monet. Zapraszam!

10 złotych 1936 Józef Piłsudski

Jest to 10 złotych z 1936 roku z wizerunkiem Józefa Piłsudskiego. I od razu powiem, że stan tej monety nie jest jakiś cudowny. Nie będę tutaj pisał bajek, że jest piękna i że oko wariuje, bo nie wariuje. Moneta jest zmęczona, ma rysy, przetarcia i widać, że ktoś kiedyś ją normalnie używał albo później trzymał niezbyt delikatnie. Ale mimo tego jest to nadal przedwojenna dziesiątka, a takich rzeczy nie zostawia się obojętnie, szczególnie jak wpadają w większym locie. Ja do monet II RP mam ogromną słabość, bo one zawsze mają sens. Nawet jak stan jest naprawdę średni, to dalej jest Polska, srebro i kawałek naszej historii. 10 złotych to też już nie jest mały krążek. Przy 5 złotych człowiek czuje srebro, ale tutaj jest go po prostu więcej i w ręce od razu wygląda to poważniej. Oczywiście moja piątka z profilowego prezentuje się lepiej, dlatego siedzi na zdjęciu profilowym, a ta dziesiątka raczej nie ma na to szans. No ale trudno. Nie każda moneta musi być pokazową super sztuką. Czasem ma po prostu trafić do albumu, zamknąć temat albo czekać na lepszą podmiankę. Takie targowe zakupy właśnie tak wyglądają. Bierze się lot, człowiek trochę ryzykuje, później w domu ogląda spokojnie i dopiero wtedy wychodzi, co tak naprawdę przyjechało.

Na jednej stronie mamy portret Piłsudskiego zwrócony w lewo. Portret jest duży, zajmuje prawie całe pole i nawet w słabszym stanie nadal robi robotę, bo od razu wiadomo, z czym mamy do czynienia. Nie trzeba się domyślać, nie trzeba szukać po herbach, nie trzeba odpalać katalogu. Jest Piłsudski i tyle. Na moim egzemplarzu twarz jest trochę starta, pole też nie jest czyste, ale najważniejsze rzeczy widać. Druga strona to orzeł, napis Rzeczpospolita Polska, rok 1936 i nominał 10 złotych. W tle są promienie, które na ładniejszych sztukach wyglądają naprawdę fajnie, tutaj już trochę słabiej, ale dalej da się złapać cały zamysł. I teraz tak, można narzekać na stan, tylko po co. Kupiłem ją na targu, w zestawie, nie jako perełkę z aukcji za wielkie pieniądze. Gdybym chciał stan menniczy, to musiałbym inaczej szukać i inaczej zapłacić. Ta sztuka jest bardziej taka robocza. Ma być, ma leżeć w kolekcji i przypominać, że nie zawsze trafiają się same ładne egzemplarze. Przy polskim srebrze przedwojennym i tak jest ten plus, że zawsze ktoś to weźmie, nawet jak nie jest idealne. Ludzie bardzo lubią II RP, ja też lubię, więc problemu nie ma. Jak kiedyś trafi się jakaś lepsza dziesiątka, to pewnie zrobię podmianę, a ta pójdzie dalej albo zostanie jako dubel. Na razie jest u mnie i swoje zadanie spełnia. Więcej srebra niż piątka, Piłsudski jest, rok jest, orzeł jest, więc tragedii nie ma. Może nie jest to moneta do zachwytów, ale do kolekcji jak najbardziej.
