Greetings, Silver Gold Stackers community!
Today, I want to share with you a special part of my coin collection – two pieces from the renowned Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin series, issued by the prestigious Perth Mint. This series has a long, fascinating history and unique characteristics that make it stand out among other coin series globally.

The Kookaburra series was first launched in 1990, featuring a new design each year, each capturing the native Australian bird in a different setting or pose. This yearly change in design is one of the key factors that make the Kookaburra series highly sought after by collectors and investors alike. The coins are made of pure (.9999) silver, typically coming in 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilogram sizes.
Now, let's take a look at two specific coins from my collection. The first one is the Kookaburra coin from 2015. It depicts a single kookaburra sitting on a tree stump surrounded by foliage. The level of detail in the bird's feathers, the leaves, and the bark is a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship at Perth Mint.
Next, we have a recently minted 2023 Kookaburra coin. The reverse shows two kookaburras perched on tree branches among flowers. The designer was Wade Robinson.
One noteworthy aspect of this series is its value appreciation. The most sought-after years can command prices around $140-$150, a significant increase compared to their original issuing prices.
I'm on a mission to collect as many editions as I can from this series. Each Kookaburra coin brings a unique charm, from its finely detailed artwork to its embodiment of Australian culture and heritage.
I encourage all of you, fellow Silver Gold Stackers, to share images and stories of your own Kookaburra coins. Which edition you love the most? Whether you are a seasoned collector or a newbie, we can all appreciate the beauty and history of these coins. I look forward to seeing your collections and discussing the allure of these exceptional pieces of silver art.
As a sidenote, I asked Midjourney to generate a few proposal of new Kookaburra's coin reverses and I must say, there are few pretty interesting propositions. Check them out!
Let's continue to learn, share, and appreciate the incredible world of numismatics together! Stay tuned!
