is an Indonesian Hiver who would sometimes share his coins with the #silvergoldstacker community and regularly follows my blog, among others.
These are the Indonesian silver coins I mentioned to him sometime in the past. Both of these coins were produced by the United States Mint from 1937 to 1945. Both were demonetized in January 1, 1952.
Gulden? Yes, that was the currency of the Netherlands. The Dutch came to Indonesia in the 1600s, chasing spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. They started with trading posts run by the Dutch East India Company, or VOC. But the VOC wasn't just a company. It had special powers from the Dutch government- like making treaties and waging war. Basically, it acted like a mini-government and slowly took control of parts of Indonesia. When the VOC collapsed in 1799, the Dutch government took over directly in the 1700s and ruled until Indonesia declared independence in 1945 after World War II.
