Christmas is a time of spiritual reflection on the important foundations of the Christian faith. It’s also a celebration. It’s when Christians celebrate God’s love for the world through the birth of the Christ child: Jesus. The Bible tells of his birth hundreds of years before, fulfilling prophecies.
Meaning of the Word 'Christmas'
The term originates from the Old English Cristes mæsse, or "Christ's Mass," first recorded in historical documents around 1038. This phrase evolved into Middle English as Cristemasse, beautifully capturing the heart of this holiday as a time to honor and remember the birth of Jesus Christ.
In Christian tradition, "Mass" refers to the celebration of the Eucharist—an essential and sacred observance commemorating the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. By coming together for "Christ’s Mass," early believers celebrated His entrance into the world, setting the stage for a transformative message of hope and salvation.

I like the simple representation of the Nativity.
The bright star and two angels trumpeting the arrival of the Messiah.
The outline of the Holy Family. The Messiah, “an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12), in the presence of His Mother, Mary and His Holy Foster Father, Joseph.
A shepherd- we actually see a part of ourselves and relate ourselves to the shepherds from long ago. Many are as ‘poor’ in state as those shepherds in the sense that they are financially poor, or sick, or oppressed, and afflicted. Many face a mountain of debts and live from paycheck to paycheck. Some suffer physically from disabilities and mentally from illnesses, like depression and anxiety disorders. Yet some suffer emotionally from deep hurts caused by others, by their own families or friends. Still, some struggle to fit in their environment. A lot of Christians, because of their Faith, are persecuted for defending their Christian rights, morals, and values. They are ‘outcasts’ in their own families due to their religion, ideas, beliefs, and even personalities.
Then there is a donkey, a beast of burden. A donkey is a symbol of humility and service. Jesus entered the world in a humble setting, emphasizing the importance of serving others without seeking recognition.
When I look at what I've collected, I am grateful for the mix I chose... Nativity scenes that remind me of the heart of Christmas, the winter scenes that capture the beauty of the season, and the familiar silver rounds that bring back memories of past holidays. They are pieces of faith, joy, and tradition that I get to carry with me each year.
