Tonight on my way out I grabbed another coin to write about out of my box. It was another Frickin Tuna like the one from yesterday! Actually in much better shape so not as bad. So what did I grab today you ask?
2015 Burundi African Lion
Much like yesterday, I don't collect this series and have never heard of it. With my curiosity peaked I started to look into this coin. WOAH!!! Only 50,000 mintage! JM Bullion
This past year, the nation of Burundi commenced their new “African Lion” coin series with the release of its 2015 1 oz Silver African Lion Coin. The exclusive piece will be restricted to a limited mintage of only 50,000 pieces.
Then I got a little sidetracked.
I wasn't sure where Burundi was, so a little research was in order. Looks like it's near Rwanda, The Congo and Tanzania. Hmmm. Wonder what real estate is like over there???
For only $51,000 Burundi Bucks you can get a house with indoor and outdoor toilets and servants quarters! Wonder how many of these Lion coins it would take to get moved in?
Back to the coin. This one is in much better shape than the Tuna from yesterday. I may actually put it in a case. Check out this awesome reverse of the coin along with a brief description from JM Bullion.
The artwork for this stunning piece commemorates none other than Africa’s most ferocious predator, the lion. Gracing the front of the coin is a male lion, laying next to his female mate. The intense and attentive expressions on both their faces suggests that the pair may be on the look out for their next unsuspecting prey. Depicted around these feral felines are the Boabab trees and tall blades of grass that make up the terrain of their African savanna home. Such detailed rendering of both the lions and their native habitat are enough to make the viewer feel as though they were actually on safari. Also printed on the obverse of the coin is the title of the coin series and its year of mintage.
Not much time tonight for a better post. Do you collect this series? It looks like a nice set to start but I'm not much into the animal series coins. Let me know what you think!
