We’ve reached day eleven of the “12 Days of Christmas” precious metals challenge, and today’s pick is something truly special. In fact, it may just be my favourite coin of all time, the legendary 1847 Victoria Gothic Silver Crown.
To many collectors this coin represents the pinnacle of numismatic beauty. The design is breathtaking, with Queen Victoria portrayed in a medieval gothic style that sets it apart from every other crown ever minted. The level of detail, the artistry and the sheer elegance make it one of the most admired coins in the world.
This isn’t just a coin, it’s a piece of history frozen in silver. Every time you see one, especially in higher grades, it reminds you of how stunning traditional engraving could be. Unsurprisingly it is priced accordingly, with a fine example fetching around £5,500, meaning this wishlist entry requires very deep pockets indeed.
But it’s Christmas, and if there’s ever a time to dream big, this is it. If Santa wanted to blow my mind with a single numismatic masterpiece, the Gothic Crown would be it.
