A small town
At the bottom of the Dollard, a bay at the North-East cost of the Netherlands.
The small town of Torum before the flood.
Drowned in 1509
During the Cosmas- en Damianusflood of the year 1509 a lot of villages disappeared under the water of what is now known as the Dollard (Not the $ one, that comes from the Nederish word Daalder). Among the lost was a small town known as Torum. It is close to Pogum in Germany, on the border with the Netherlands. Now the Dollard is a bay that is connected to the river the Ems {NL: Eems}. And on its floor are left behind the pieces of what once was a very rich region. With Torum having 8 gold and silver smiths, it has been stated that its riches are still to found somewhere down there in the thick sludge layer under the water of the Dollard. But it took many lives of those who tried to get those silver and gold treasures. As the streams are extremely dangerous and the brackish water is very opaque.

Now you might have gotten here because you thought this was about a media platform with the name TORUM. Well, in a way it is related to that, because I was surprised to see that name pop up on Hive dot blog. My hometown is Winschoten, municipality of Oldambt (hence the membership name: Oal Dam Ster). And I grew up in a nearby village known as Finsterwolde. Though the country I live in is often mistaken for Dutchland, it is called Nederland by the way, also known as the Netherlands. And I do actually live close to the real 'Dutchland', which is Germany. Although the Germans write it as Deutschland in their native language. We do have a lot in common as Germanic people, part of my family also has its roots in Germany. Much of the history of the lower Sassenach lands is interconnected, all the way over to Briton.
A book from the year 1855 about the Dollard
To get to the Dollard, the Ems bay, is just an hour of a bicycle ride. One moment I am in Nederland, the next I am in Deutschland {EN: Germany}. And together with a good mate of mine I was going on a quest to find the silver and gold of Torum. Eurm, sorry, to learn more about the rich history of the region we live in. And I knew there was a dam in the German part of Reiderland, near the village of Pogum. There was a dam, but between us and the long dam in the Dollard there was a huge gap filled with brackish water and a lot of treacherous sludge. Therefore we decided that we valued our lives way too much and wend on to Ditzum. Where we found Torum, well it was the name of a street in that harbor village. And somewhere in February 2015 the mystical history of Torum inspired me to create a Token on the NXT blockchain with the same name.
This is not about that new platform
Although I guess with me stating it like that, it now is, in a way. So sorry to have disappointed you if you were expecting me to write about it. Torum is not a very common name. Although it is related to Thor, a god from an old Germanic religion, it is not known like that. It has also been known Thorum though. And for the NXT Monetary System Token I also used the name Thorumhaim. 'Haim' meaning place or house. And 'um' is something like the surroundings belonging somebody. Belonging to a certain individual. So Thorum would mean something like ' a surrounding beloning to Thor'. Thor at some point in space-time was a common name in the Germanic regions. And in way it is fun to see the name of a small town that was lost in a flood become known on a global scale. Seems there is actually cryptos to be earned as a reward for participating. Like silver and gold maybe?
On the NXT blockchain the Thornhaim, TORUM, Token had to be minted through SHA3 mining. (Maybe it still can be done like that, because it there were 15.09 trillion to be mined, with three decimals. About the same as 150.9 million with 8 decimals.) One thing that disappointed me was that the NXT Monetary System could not be used on a substantive sidechain. Then, what was its use going to be? Luckily in march 2016 there was Hive (Well, first it had another name, the one that shall not be mentioned...) Anyway, with Hive-Engine it is possible to make it possible what I thought NXT / ARDOR would offer. And maybe, even TORUM can move over to the Hive blockchain? Who knows. Having experienced many wannabees I think that the Hive blockchain has the full potential to serve sidechains, or several layers on top. Even on top of side chains, why not.

So, if you are going towards the TORUM thing and you wonder where that name might have come from? Well, now you know and I have got some maps to prove it to you too! And of course the creation of the Thornhaim Torum Token ᚦ is locked in the NXT blockchain. Maybe I can call myself now the proud owner of a complete media platform? Okay, no, it is merely a name, I know, but it is a cool name for a Token. And with the upcoming instant swap system on the Hive-engine, it might be fun to move some Tokens over there. The future is bright, the future is Hive, that is at least what I've concluded from having experienced a lot of other blockchain systems. And I will not name them all because there is no such thing as bad advertisement.
Get beezy with it!
So you think you now could create a Token named Thorn or Thorum on the Hive-engine, make a Nitrous front end and beat me to it? Stake it, create a community around it and so forth and so on? Well, what are you waiting for, make it so! Engage! (And I do have some ᚦ coin / token design you can use, we'll take about the price...) =D
Anyway, Hive is the blockchain to be, an if you are not a member yet, then it is about time you become one!
Hive on you beezy being!

PS Thor also means door, opening or gate, forgot to mention that...
