One of the positive things that this lockdown has provided to those who live in a busy city is the chance to discover our neighborhood in a different way.
I live in one of the most crowded area of Barcelona, it is called “Eixample”.
It has plenty of modernist buildings around. The problem is that, on a normal day, you don’t stop to admire the architecture of these peculiar buildings.
Today we did a long walk with the children. I tried to show them some of those buildings, explaining what I know about their history.
It was built as a Villa for a rich Catalan Engineer by one of the most important architectures of the moment, Rubio i Bellver, who was also a close colleague of the famous Gaudí.
The Golferichs family lived there till the beginnings of the Spanish Civil war on 1936.
During the war, it was confiscated by libertarian military and afterward it was converted in a school also.
The beauty of this building has endured over time and nowadays it’s most used as a cultural space for the citizens.
A couple of pics of the building:
Have a good day!
