Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate finding new spots to take a nice hike in!
Wednesday Forest Walk
Living on the eastern coast of the United States has many advantages, one of those advantages is definitely having ample territory to get outside and do a lot of hiking in!
New Hampshire is one of the best states that I've been to as far as hiking goes, but I know I've only scratched the surface of that capability. There are so many places in the state that are incredible for hiking and this is just one tiny sliver of the possibilities! When you're out there, it feels like it's a whole lot bigger than it is but this one is on the relatively smaller scale as far as the size of the area one can hike in. What it may lack in size though, doesn't lack in beauty and incredible scenery that's for sure!
The area was one that we'd been meaning to try out for a while, we drive past it relatively regularly over the years as it's near an area that we go to often but down the road a bit. I first spotted it maybe 2 years ago and always wanted to stop in but at the time the little man was a little too young to do hiking like this, so we put it over on the list of "things to do" in the future! The time was ripe for that and we will be doing many more awesome hikes in the coming weeks now that the cooler weather has set in, and a lot of the bugs are dead or hiding. Certainly a benefit of being in the area is that it does kill things so they are less annoying.
What was cool about this particular spot is that it had a designated spot for boy scouts! On the map it said that about 1.5 miles in on the trail, to the side there was going to be a boy scout camp ground and we most certainly found it. There were pallets all over the ground so that people could camp there and be off the ground, making it possibly a little more comfortable than sleeping on the ground itself. Of course there was a nice camping fire pit as well, and the little man was all too excited to get in there and rifle around. I didn't let him do that for too long though, as you never know what the hell could be in some of those fire pits. People tend to throw glass bottles and shit in there, among other dangerous things for a little tike to get ahold of.
That didn't stop us from keep on trekking though! We hiked I think about a little over 4 miles in total, and we found some other cool shit as well that will come in next week's post of the area. What I loved about this spot though was the views! There's something about being on a hiking trail and having long, windy trails that are in front of you but straight enough so that you can get a good look at what's in front of you and appreciate the beauty of the wooded area with the different trees, dead leaves on the trail and things in various stages of life.
What was funny about this particular hike is that we intended on going on it with the idea in mind that we would be getting some cool shots of the early stages of the beautiful fall color changes in the New England area, only to find out that just the tips of the trees at the every top of the forest were changing colors! The forest floor which we are walking on, has hardly been touched by the colors of the changing seasons. I certainly appreciate the additional time we get to enjoy the change from top to bottom but at the same time when you're out there to go and see the foliage changes, you get a little disappointed not seeing it in action lol.
The beauty of the forest takes that little bit of disappointment away though for sure! :D I'm really glad that we managed to get out there and check out this new spot. What's fun is the little man has asked to go to new places for some hiking adventures instead of just going to the same old places that we went last year. This adds some fun to the weekends in that we get to explore new stuff. We're hoping that one of these days mama can join us for a family hike! She has opted to stay out of the hiking for now, as she's got some stuff going on and doesn't want to hurt or irritate anything else lol so that's understandable. I feel bad taking the little man to these places, getting some photos and sending them back to her without her being there to experience it all but we gotta deal with what we can in life that's for sure.
In the mean time, as of writing this, we are heading out to a new spot tomorrow so I'll definitely have ample material to work on in the coming weeks which I'm looking forward to!
