I've always been the responsible one. One day though, I'd like to sail away.
I love sailing, though I rarely get to. Rarely as in it's been years. Yesterday I got a totally unsuspected invite: to sail away one week, free, as a deckhand on a two masted schooner.
Wait, what?

A friend of my wife's is a part of some restore old ships foundation and one schooner was in need of ten deckhands. Evidently, the friend cannot find anyone willing to take up the offer. The ship (yacht?) was two masted schooner, no less. Those boats just have the "it" factor...grace and romanticism just seep out of them in oodles. Something about the balance of the dual masts and sleek look, the "sheer", I guess, just gives them that mystique and beauty. There are reasons people paint these and hang them on their walls. In maritime terms, she's "yar."
The friend seriously asked if I could get off work for a week to sail.
Wow. I'm off this week, but back to work next week. I was asked, "Any way to get out of work for a week?" The truthful answer is likely, "Yes." But, I've always been the responsible one. Shedding work for a week of sailing doesn't jive with my DNA. It doesn't jive, nor does it jibe, heh heh. Jibing is always a dangerous sailing move...masts get snapped and heads get clonked and hands get swept overboard. So, the answer will be no for now.
Still, wow. One day.
