Sorry everyone. I know I've been shipping so much lately you're probably seeing all of my announcement posts flooding Hive and the HiveDevs community. But I'm motivated and energised to keep shipping new apps, I've noticed that it's catching on and a few others are also doing the same. I want to show it's possible to ship without needing to rort the DHF for funding.
Anyway.
I'm excited to announce HiveBounty, a micro-bounty platform built on Hive where you can post tasks, offer payment in HIVE, HBD, or any Hive Engine token, and have the entire process — funding, delivery, and payout — settled transparently on-chain.
What is HiveBounty?
HiveBounty lets you post work bounties across categories like development, design, writing, bug fixes, translation, marketing, video, and more. You define the task, set a reward in the token of your choice, fund it through a simple wallet transfer, and contributors submit their work. You review, pick a winner, and funds are released automatically.
The entire lifecycle is backed by on-chain escrow. When you create a bounty, you deposit the reward (plus a small platform fee) to @hivebounty.app with a unique memo. The funds are held until you accept a submission, at which point they're paid out to the winner. If things go sideways, there's a dispute resolution process built in.
How It Works
- Post a bounty — Pick a category, describe what you need, set a reward amount and deadline.
- Fund it — Transfer HIVE, HBD, or any Hive Engine token to
@hivebounty.appwith the provided memo. The bounty goes live once the deposit confirms on-chain. - Contributors submit work — Anyone can submit their work with descriptions and links to repos, PRs, IPFS content, or any URL.
- Review and pay — Browse submissions, pick the best one, and the escrow releases payment to the winner.
That's it. No middlemen, no payment processors, no waiting for bank transfers. Just Hive transactions.
Why This Matters: Token Utility
Here's what I really want to talk about.
If you've been in the Hive Engine ecosystem for any length of time, you've seen the pattern. A community launches a token. Early excitement. Maybe some staking rewards, a tipping bot, upvote incentives. For a while it works. Then activity drops, sell pressure builds, and the token slowly dies.
Why? Because most of these tokens have zero real utility. Staking rewards are circular — you're rewarding people for holding, which is fine for a while, but it doesn't create actual economic activity. Tipping bots are nice gestures but they don't drive demand. Vote incentives create an economy around content rewards but don't extend much beyond that.
What's missing is spending. People need reasons to use tokens, not just hold them. Real utility means someone has a token and thinks "I can get something done with this."
That's what HiveBounty provides. If you run a community with a Hive Engine token, your members can now:
- Post bounties offering payment in your community token
- Pay for development work, content creation, design, translations — real tasks with real deliverables
- Create a marketplace of work around your token
Suddenly your token isn't just something people stake and forget about. It's something they spend to get things done, and something contributors earn by doing work. That's a real economy.
It's Not Just HiveBounty
This is part of a broader effort. I've been building tools that provide genuine utility to Hive and Hive Engine tokens — not just another frontend for the same reward pool mechanics, but applications where tokens function as actual currency for goods and services.
I believe this approach is what the ecosystem needs. We have solid infrastructure with Hive and Hive Engine. What we're missing is applications that give people reasons to transact. Every app that creates real spend-and-earn loops for tokens strengthens the entire ecosystem, not just the individual token.
What You Can Do Right Now
- Browse bounties at hivebounty.com and see what's available
- Post a bounty if you've got a task you need done — development, design, writing, whatever. Pick your token, set the reward, fund it
- Submit work on existing bounties and earn tokens for your skills
- If you run a community with a Hive Engine token, consider posting bounties in your token. Give your holders a reason to spend and your community members a reason to earn
Login works through Hive Keychain (browser extension) or HiveSigner, so if you have a Hive account you're already good to go.
The first bounty
For the first bounty I've got a simple bounty for finding me a funny meme with the reward being 500 BEGGARS tokens (future worth is one trillion dollars, lol): https://hivebounty.com/bounties/find-me-a-funny-meme find me a meme and I might choose it to win the 500 BEGGARS tokens.
What's Next
HiveBounty is live and functional today. There's a leaderboard tracking top contributors, discussion threads on each bounty for coordination, a reputation system, and a full escrow history so you can verify every transaction on-chain.
I'm actively developing and there's more coming, but I wanted to get this out there and in people's hands. The best way to improve it is to have people using it.
