Hi everyone! I'm very excited to announce that discontinued tool Steem Friends has made a return with a new name: Hive Mates. Click here to go to the app (URL: http://magicmonk.org/hivemates)
The reason why the tool was discontinued was due to the large background running costs. However, thanks to the HiveSQL database for being free to use now, I thought I would bring back the tool with the name Hive Mates.
For those of you who are new to the app, all you have to do is type your username in the text box, and then click on the red button "Contributors".
You will then see the following screen which shows the ranking table of who has contributed the most to your article rewards.
Here are some actions you can take on this screen to further analyze your data:
- Change how many people you want to show on this query. The default is 200 but you can show a maximum of 1000 users.
- Change the start date of your query. You can go all the way back to when the blockchain started, however obviously the larger the date range, the longer the loading time. The default is 3 months before today's date.
- Change the end date of your query. The default is today's date.
- Click the Refresh button after you have changed the toggles in 1, 2, or 3, otherwise the query won't be updated.
- Click on the username to see their Hive posts on hive.blog
- Click on the dollar amount to look up the user on Hive Mates.
One thing I have made sure as I developed the app is that the user experience is maintained when you use it on your mobile phone browser, so you can use the app on your phone and it will still look the same as above.
As you can imagine, there is a fair bit of work involved in bringing back a tool after 2 years:
A lot of functions on the original website have stopped working due to a lack of maintenance. I have to understand the whole source code again and try to figure out which little bit of code is causing problems.
After not using the app for a while, it has given me a fresh perspective on some areas for improvement, a few of which I have put in place already.
Getting people to understand how to use the tool again. For new Hivers they would find it too confronting if they saw all the features at once.
Changing the logo / interface design to fit the Hive colour scheme instead of Steem.
Query Optimization to reduce loading times.
Getting users to test and evaluate the app, then modify it to improve user experience.
I look forward to hearing your feedback from using this tool. Let me know if you enjoyed the app and whether you would like me to keep working on it to bring back the rest of the features and add new features.
