Hello Hive Community,
Today’s post is a little different.
It’s not just about development updates… it’s about the emotional reality of building for Hive.
Behind every application, every commit, every deployment… there is time, money, effort, and emotion invested.
And sometimes, the reaction from people can be very hard to deal with.
The Messages I Receive
People come to me in direct messages and ask things like:
Why are you building rip-off products?
Snapie already exists. Why the hell did you build hSnaps?
What problem are you solving?
Why should anyone vote for a witness who copies apps?
What value are you bringing to Hive by building replicas?
Trust me — I am sharing the polite version of those messages.
There are people who go much further.
Some call me someone who leeches the chain or milks the ecosystem.
I call them keyboard warriors.
But the truth is… even if you try to ignore it, it takes a mental toll.
Imagine launching something you worked extremely hard on…
and the first reaction you hear is criticism instead of curiosity.
It hurts.
Sometimes it really hurts.
Sometimes it even makes you cry.
Building a Suite of Apps for Hive
Despite all of that, our goal remains simple.
We want to build a suite of modern applications for the Hive ecosystem that make it easier for Web2 users to discover and adopt Web3 social platforms.
Hive already has incredible technology and a passionate community.
But for many Web2 users, the experience can still feel fragmented or unfamiliar.
By creating a collection of well-designed, mobile-first applications, we hope to make Hive:
- easier to understand
- easier to use
- easier to discover
One of these applications is hSnaps, inspired by ideas from Snapie and PeakD Snaps.
But inspiration does not mean copying.
Our goal is to expand the ecosystem, experiment with new ideas, and build tools that connect multiple Hive platforms together.
Why Build New Apps When Others Already Exist?
This is actually a very fair question.
Hive already has amazing tools built by talented developers.
Each application solves a specific problem.
Our approach is slightly different.
We are building a suite of connected applications that:
- focus heavily on mobile-first experiences
- introduce modern UX improvements
- experiment with new integrations
- provide shared functionality across apps
- allow single-sign-on across our ecosystem
Instead of one standalone tool, we are building a connected ecosystem of apps.
Example: hReplier vs Engage
Engage is a great tool for interacting with Hive notifications and comments.
But it is primarily optimized for desktop usage.
With hReplier, we focused on mobile-first engagement.
Features we introduced include:
- Markdown preview for comments
- GIF attachments
- Audio attachments
- Video attachments
- Bookmarking comments
- Ignoring specific authors (no mute, no blacklist - hSuite specific)
- Additional productivity tools
These improvements make engagement faster and more convenient on mobile devices, which is where most social interaction happens today.
Example: hSnaps vs Snapie
Snapie focuses on a specific short-form experience.
Our goal with hSnaps is to expand the concept further.
hSnaps acts as a discovery layer for short-form content across Hive, including:
- PeakD Snaps
- Ecency Waves
- Liketu Moments
- Leo Threads
Instead of limiting discovery to one platform, we are building a unified experience.
We are also experimenting with features such as:
- bookmark syncing across apps
- ignored-author syncing
- single-sign-on across our app suite
- enhanced media support
These ideas aim to create a more connected Hive ecosystem.
Applications Already Delivered
Over the past few years, we have launched several tools for Hive:
Each application solves a different problem and contributes to the Hive ecosystem in its own way.
Applications Currently in Development
We are actively building:
- hApprover – approve Hive transactions from your phone
- hSnaps – short-form content platform inspired by Snapie and PeakD Snaps
Planned Applications
Our long-term vision includes many more tools for the ecosystem:
- hSurvey - publish surveys, take surveys
- hChat - chat application
- hShorts – Instagram-style video platform powered by 3Speak
- hVideos – videos like youtube powered by 3Speak
- hGovernance – governance tools for Hive
- hFind – powerful search across Hive content
- hMarketPlace – decentralized marketplace
- hPlanner – productivity tools for Hive users
- Feel free to add more if you've ideas
Built for Hive With Personal Investment
Everything we build is:
- self-funded
- built without external funding
- developed with personal investment
For more than four years, we have been continuously building for Hive.
That includes paying for:
- developer salaries from our own pocket
- infrastructure and servers
- hosting and maintenance
- electricity and internet costs
- and most importantly our time and energy
Meanwhile, I often see projects receiving huge funding while we personally fund everything we build.
I am not asking for funding.
But sometimes I do wonder:
What kind of world are we living in?
Where the people who build quietly are questioned…
while those who shout the loudest are celebrated, funded, acknowledged, appreciated, shared, loved, cheered.
Open Source Commitment
Everything we build is open source & closed source
Closed source = trusted people on hive are added as admin to private repositories.
We strongly believe the Hive ecosystem becomes stronger when developers share, collaborate, and build together.
Our goal is not just to build apps.
Our goal is to help build a stronger Hive ecosystem for everyone.
The Hard Truth
All of this is done for the Hive community.
Yet sometimes the same community does not see the effort.
Many people:
- don't see the reality
- don't see the hard work
- don't see the sacrifices
Forget funding.
Forget upvotes.
Forget witness votes.
Sometimes there is not even acknowledgement.
Only a handful of people truly know the work happening behind the scenes.
And even among those who know, some still point fingers and say:
It’s a copy.
It’s a rip-off.
Why are you building this?
And yes… that hurts deeply.
But I Will Keep Building
Despite all the noise…
Despite the criticism…
Despite the emotional toll…
I still have high hopes.
So I keep my head high.
Eyes down on the ground.
And I keep working.
I keep building.
I keep delivering.
Because I believe in Hive.
And I believe that one day, all these efforts will help bring millions of Web2 users into Web3 through Hive.
Until then…
Just wish me luck.
Really.
Wish me luck. 🍀
