Dear Hivians,
I was interested if there was a correlation between the witness ranking position and the HP of the user running that witness. Grok did the analysis for me, based on two sources:
- https://hive.arcange.eu/witnesses/ for the witness ranking and
- https://hivebuzz.me/ranking for the HP value (I had to extract into an Excelsheet as Grok was not able to read the dynamic content😟)
Of note: I manually adjusted the HP values to reflect the actual user(s) behind them (as best as I could figure out) and removed inactive witnesses.
This was the outcome, calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient:
Scatter plot of witness rank vs. HP (as per Nov, 29th 2025)
This is a logarithmic scale of HP-values, so the differences look way smaller than they are!
I was surprised that the correlation is indeed that high. Well, I leave the interpretation up to you.
In any case, if you want to run a witness, having more HP definitely helps to climb the ranks.
Or is it the opposite? Does being a witness improve the HP over time? It does by definition (witness rewards), but witness rewards can be and are often sold over time as well, so the witness rewards can´t explain the huge differences (maybe with exception of some of the very early miners still in the top 20 witnesses).
What are your thoughts?
