We could use a simple conditional syntax for this. If the frontend supports the new method it is rendered from metadata. Otherwise there is a shorter content block normally (the conditional is hidden as md comment). We would still have the problem on lazy frontends but they could be pressured by the authors with footer links to prefered frontend. The new method would not show the links to others while the old method would.
