Recently, I wrote about my growing desire to have a private office. To clarify my ideal office image, I thought about writing this post.

My Work and Kitchen Office

My workspace is in a corner of my home kitchen, which is about 16 square meters. My work includes desk work such as translation, writing, programming, and more physical works like art, design, cooking, and gardening. At first glance, these seem unrelated, but they are connected at least in my opinion.

Cooking utensils, computers, notebooks, pens, plants, and seeds coexist in the same space. I like the nice messiness.

I get up early in the morning, drink some water, practice yoga, brew coffee, water the plants on the balcony, and start my desk work. During breaks from desk work, I bake bread and try out new recipes.

Why I Like My Current Workspace

In a word, it's the convenience of having everything in one place. The comfort of being able to write/translate articles while baking bread, take care of plants to refresh my mood, play with my daughter while working and cooking ... all within a few meters. I recall my mother saying something similar 😁

I have a cooking space, and on the opposite side, I have a compact wall storage and a desk built with IKEA IVAR series. There's a small wooden table that we use for breakfast, as my workspace, or for my daughter to draw in the kitchen.

The door on the right of the work desk leads to the balcony. It's a tiny balcony of about 2 square meters, where I nurse seedlings for a community garden and I grow vegetables and fruits for my family. It's quite versatile, and I post updates of the balcony to Hive Garden every Sunday.

I love food, cooking, and eating. My favorite place in the apartment is definitely the kitchen (and the balcony). Just like Banana Yoshimoto's roman "Kitchen". At the beginning of the story, there is a sentence "I think the place I like best in this world is the kitchen," that's exactly how I feel 😁

Things I Want to Improve

Despite the comfort of my current kitchen office, I have a growing wish list.

I want ...

• Private space
• A larger cooking space
• A larger work and production space
• A slightly larger balcony or rooftop with full sunshine

The kitchen is a shared space with my family, and they often come in. It's nice to feel them and I can concentrate on my work during the day, but I want a private space. It's my long time wish in the last years.

I want to have a sofa for napping. I like to take a nap in the middle of a day. I notice the benefits of taking a nap, especially for creative work. My family finds it creepy when they find me napping in the kitchen on a portable mattress ...

I would also love to have a bigger kitchen and balcony. I spend a lot of time browsing real estate websites, skipping photos until I see a great balcony 😁

What's my ideal office?

I'm fundamentally satisfied with my current kitchen office in my family home. I just want to add some privacy and spaciousness to it.

My current house has very low rent, and it's comfortable for my family to live in, so I would like to keep it. Given that, it seems best to rent another property nearby for my office.

By writing this down and looking at properties every day, I've come to realize that an ideal setup would be a large studio + balcony, or a large kitchen + bedroom + balcony.

I quite like the amount of sunlight my current balcony gets, but if I had to choose, I would prefer the top floor with walls on three sides or a rooftop without walls around, namely it gets full sunshine. I won't compromise on this point, and I always skip through photos on real estate websites until I see a balcony 😁

The search for an office continues

There is a shortage of properties in Germany or at least in my area, and in the current economic situation and world circumstances, the number of properties coming on the market is smaller and smaller. And prices are rising ...

However, since I have a comfortable kitchen office for now, luckily I'm not in a rush. I will take my time and be uncompromising until I find the one that says, "This is it!" Occasionally, the ideal property does come up. Just a few days ago, there was a perfect property. But I was too slowly contacting to the real estate agent via email. It was reserved. Ja, but good ones comes again 💪

先日、私の最近の強いオフィス欲について書きました。今一度、仕事場であるキッチンオフィスや働き方について書き出して、理想のオフィスのイメージを明確にするといいかなと思い、タイトルのような投稿を書くことにしました。

私の仕事とキッチンオフィス

私の仕事は自宅の16平方メートルほどのキッチンの一角にあります。翻訳、執筆、プログラミングといった知識労働に加えて、アートやデザイン、料理、ガーデニングというより物理的な仕事もしています。一見すると、関係のなさそうな仕事ですが、食材を育てて調理する、生活について書く、AIを使ってアートやデザインの仕事をするなどなど、実はゆるくそれぞれがつながっていています。

朝早起きしたらまずはキッチンでお湯を飲んで、ヨガをして、コーヒーを淹れてバルコニーの植物を観察して水をやって、デスクワークにとりかかります。デスクワークの合間にパンを焼いたり、新しい料理の試作をしたりしています。外にいる時以外は大体ここにいます。

今のキッチンオフィスを気に入っている理由

一言で言うとオールインワンの快適さを気に入っています。パンを焼きながら執筆の仕事をして、植物の世話をして気分転換になり、子供と遊びつつ仕事しつつご飯の仕事をして・・・これが数メートル圏内でできる快適さときたら。母も似たようなことを言っていたのを思い出します。

調理スペースがあって、向かいにIKEAのIVARというシリーズを使って、壁沿いに壁収納とデスクワークスペースをコンパクトに作りました。間に朝食をとったり、私が制作スペースに使ったり、子供が台所で絵を描いたりするのに使う木製の小さな机が置いてあります。

デスクワークスペースの右側のドアがバルコニーに通じています。2平方メートル位平方メートルのミニミニバルコニーで、コミュニティガーデンや自宅用の育苗をしたり、野菜や果物を育てたりしています。結構いろいろできて、毎週日曜日にHive Gardenにバルコニーのアップデートを投稿しています。

食べ物や料理、食べることが大好きなんですよね。家の中で一番好きな場所は間違いなくキッチン（とバルコニー）です。吉本ばななさんの『キッチン』の冒頭の「私がこの世でいちばん好きな場所は台所だと思う」、まさにこれです 😁

改善したいところ

そんな快適なキッチンオフィスなのですが、欲を言い出すとどんどん出てきます。

• プライベートな空間がほしい
• 調理スペースを広くとりたい
• 制作スペースを広くとりたい
• 広いバルコニーかルーフトップでもっと植物を育てたい

キッチンは家族との共有スペースで、どかどか家族が入ってきます。一応日中は集中して仕事ができるものの、プライベートな空間がほしいです。

昼寝用にソファーを置きたいですが、スペースがなく、古いマットレスでフロアクッションを作ったものの、私がキッチンで寝ていると不気味です w 調理スペースと制作スペース、バルコニーももうちょっと広いといいな。

理想のオフィスは？

基本的には今のキッチンオフィスに満足しています。ここにプライバシーと広さを加えたい感じです。

今の家は家賃がとても安く、家族で住むには快適なのでキープしておきたいです。そう考えると、自宅の近くに一つ物件を借りるのがよさそうです。

こうして書き出したり、日々物件を見ていると、大きめのスタジオ＋バルコニーまたは、大きめのキッチン＋寝室＋バルコニーのような構成が理想的なことがわかってきました。

うちのバルコニーの日当たり具合は結構気に入っているのですが、強いて言うと3方向壁なしの最上階か、壁なしノルーフトップがあるととてもよいです。これは妥協できず、不動産情報のウェブサイトでは写真をざくざくバルコニーが出てくるまで飛ばすほどです w

オフィス探しは続く

ドイツは慢性的な物件不足で、さらにこんな経済状況＆世界情勢下で、出てくる物件が少ない上に値上がりしています 😱

とはいえ、一応快適なキッチンオフィスはあるので「これだ！」というのが出てくるまで妥協せずにこだわり抜いてゆっくり探そうと思います。ときどき理想の物件が出てくるんですよね。つい数日前にもどんぴしゃの物件が出ていたのですが、私がメールでのろのろ問い合わせているうちに予約済みになってしまいました 😭

そんなこんなの今のキッチンオフィスと、アップグレード計画でした。みなさんの仕事場はどんなですか？理想の仕事場のイメージはありますか？
