Hello friends of the community , continuing with the thematic Wednesdays dedicated to women, today I wanted to dedicate it to talking about Rosa Parks and her fight for the rights of black people in the United States.
The history of the black community in the United States is a story of misfortune. Kidnapping, forced transfer, slavery and discrimination. But Rosa Parks represents a turning point in that not-yet-finished story. The dignity of this woman, along with the struggle of many others, led to the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and the official end of racial segregation. Although we all know that there is still a lot of work ahead for it to be fully effective.
On December 1, 1955, this seamstress, daughter of a carpenter and a school teacher, decided to say enough to the humiliation of not being able to sit somewhere on the public bus because of her skin color. It was not a premeditated act but an act of courage, a saying enough is enough. When the driver ordered her to change seats, she did not get up. She was arrested and spent the night in the cell. In the morning she paid the fine of 14 dollars that she had imposed on her.
But her story became what today would be called viral and along with the climate of the moment she was the spark that gave strength to the civil rights movement to extend its struggle.
Rosa Parks showed us that we must never lose dignity or allow humiliation.
