What is a garden without some vines? Well, like a celebratory meal without good wine.
Having one or several vines in your garden or orchard is essential. Not only because they will give you some delicious grapes when the time comes to pick them but because they also provide you with shade in Summer that you will appreciate. There is nothing better than having a barbecue and eating under the remains of a vine in the late afternoon.

Growing grapevines couldn't be simpler, once planted you don't have to do almost anything. If you live in a Mediterranean climate, just give it some light watering when July and August arrive unless there are storms. If you live in a very rainy continental climate, you should give some treatment against fungi to prevent their appearance.
But there is one job that you should do in both climates and that is green pruning. It is a pruning that is done between the end of May and the beginning of July, although it can take a little longer if the vines are too vigorous.
It involves pruning the shoots that have grown above the bunches of grapes to achieve two effects. The first is to get better fruits and less wood on the vine. And the second is to create, on the one hand, ventilation for the bunches and shade to protect them from the sun. All this depending on the needs of our climatic zone.
If we do it well we will be able to enjoy these delicious fruits, the delicacy of the gods as the Romans would say.
