Nawab Shahjahan Begum was born on 30 July 1838 in Bhopal. Her father, Nawab Jahangir Mohammad Khan Bahadur, was the ruler of Bhopal. She was only six years old when her father passed away. According to tradition, she became the Nawab of Bhopal but due to her short life, hence the government Her mother Nawab Sikandar Begum took over the work. Her mother also died in 1868 at the age of thirty, after which she became the Nawab with full rights and remained the Nawab of Bhopal till her death in 1901.
She was married to Baqi Mohammad Khan Nusrat Jang Bahadur in 1855, who died in 1867, thus becoming a widow at the age of just 29. After three years, under the pressure of her family members, she decided to marry for the second time and world-class scholar Nawab Siddiq Hasan. She was married to Khan Kannauji. Nawab Siddiq Hasan Khan Kannauji was a great scholar and writer. The number of books written by him is more than 250.
Nawab Shahjahan Begum was a poet of Persian language, Tajur and Sheerin were her takhallus, Masnavi Sidkul Bayan, Tajul Kala and Diwane Sheerin were fans of her poetry. Apart from this, she was also the author of many books in which Tahjibunniswaan (Rites of Women) became quite famous.
She was a very good head of government. She did a lot of work for the welfare of the people. Hospitals were built during her time. Smallpox vaccine was invented. Various types of rumors were spread among the public. To dispel them, she first got her children vaccinated. arranged for tax cuts
She developed cancer in October 1900. She struggled with the disease for eleven months and finally succumbed.
