Hello Splinterlands warriors,
We meet again in this week’s Splinterlands social media challenge post. This time, I want to share a memorable personal experience involving a card that’s been "collecting dust" in my collection for ages — WAR PEGASUS. Yep, the flying archer from the Life splinter with a bulky body, beautiful wings, but one that’s always left me confused about where to position it.
Honestly, WAR PEGASUS has been sitting in my collection for a long time, but I rarely use it. Not because it’s bad, but because I haven’t found the right team synergy for it. The problem? It’s a ranged monster without the Close Range skill, so placing it in the front means it can’t attack. Yet, its stats are pretty solid — high HP, great speed, and skills like Flying and Shatter. It seems ideal for the middle position, but it often doesn’t fit the rulesets that pop up.
This week, though, I encountered two archer-themed battles perfect for experimentation. And here’s where WAR PEGASUS’s story begins to shine… and also frustrate.
First Battle: Soaring to Victory

This battle featured the Going the Distance, Fog of War, and Close Range rulesets. As soon as I read the rules, I thought, “This is a total archer showdown!” All ranged attackers would dominate here.
I used a Fire lineup under summoner Eternan Brune — Drybone Raider, Tatiana Blayde, Lava Launcher, Fire Caller, Pyrewatch Devil, and Molten Ash Golem. My plan was to nuke the enemy before they could retaliate.
But my opponent was smarter. They used WAR PEGASUS as a tank, supported by Syrenth, Luceheim Demon, Pelacor Arbalest, Ajax Lightfoot, and Venari Crystalsmith under the Helios Matriarch summoner.
At first, I underestimated WAR PEGASUS in the front. But it turned out to be no mere decoration. Its Flying skill and high speed made it nearly untouchable. Most of my team’s attacks missed, and Venari Crystalsmith kept healing it every round. Just when I thought, “Yes, it’s almost down!” — boom, full HP again.
One by one, my monsters fell, while WAR PEGASUS stood tall. I lost badly. But what amazed me was how effective WAR PEGASUS could be as a tank — if the ruleset supports it. Speed and evasiveness were game-changers here.
Second Battle: A Regrettable Experiment

After that loss, I wondered: “What if I use WAR PEGASUS as a tank this time?”
Unfortunately, the ruleset wasn’t as friendly. Close Range was inactive, so WAR PEGASUS couldn’t attack from the front. But with no better ranged tanks in my collection, I forced it into the lineup.
My team: WAR PEGASUS, Xenith Archer, Venari Crystalsmith, and Pelacor Arbalest. The opponent’s team? Similar, but with a Gargoya Devil in front — equipped with Close Range and Shield. This made all the difference.
While my WAR PEGASUS just soaked damage silently, their Gargoya Devil attacked back and blocked damage. Once my tank fell, the backline collapsed. Xenith Archer lacked survivability, and the rest were quickly wiped out. Result? Another loss. This time, due to my own flawed strategy.
Takeaways and Lessons
From these battles, I learned a crucial lesson: choosing the right tank in archer rulesets is vital. Don’t just focus on a monster’s stats or rarity — prioritize the active ruleset. WAR PEGASUS can shine, but only if it can attack from the front or leverage its Flying and speed.
Another key takeaway: the Splinterlands community is a goldmine for learning. Battle-sharing posts like this help players realize that “average” cards can be OP in specific scenarios. For new players: experiment fearlessly and learn from losses.
Closing Tips for You
If you own WAR PEGASUS but haven’t tried it — give it a shot! Just remember: pair it with rulesets like Close Range and avoid opponents with high-accuracy monsters. Combine it with healers like Venari Crystalsmith to keep it alive longer.
Most importantly, don’t fear losing. Defeats teach strategy better than effortless wins ever could.
See you in the next battle, warriors!
Keep exploring, keep experimenting, and stay fly like WAR PEGASUS! 🕊️
